"Grease" Star Jeff Conaway Dead at 60

"Grease" Star Jeff Conaway Dead at 60Submit Comment
On May 20th, we reported that Jeff Conaway (Grease, "Taxi") had slipped into a coma following a drug overdose. And now comes word that the actor was taken off life support Thursday and died Friday morning at Encino Tarzana Medical Center. He was 60 years old.

Conways' long-time addiction to drugs and alcohol was examined in his 2008 appearance on "Celebrity Rehab." "He was trying so hard to get clean and sober," said his manager Kathryn Boole. "If it hadn't been for his back pain, I think he would have been able to do it."

"It's sad that people remember his struggle with drugs. He has touched so many people," she added. "We respected him as an artist and loved him as a friend."

Conaway is the second person who appeared on "Celebrity Rehab" who later died. In March, former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr, who was on the show in 2009, was found dead in Salt Lake City. The month before, police there had arrested him on suspicion of possession of medications without a required prescription.

Wow. Well, Rest in Peace Jeff.

I wonder who will be next. I gotta go with either Christopher Lloyd or Judd Hirsch.

Okay, celebrity triple death :

"Macho Man" Randy Savage,
Jeff Conaway,
.... ?

Bill Hunter died 7 days ago (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert)... so does that mean we are clear till the next round to Celebrity Death Trinity ?

If so, I vote one of them be Lindsay Lohan, with an overdose in a dingy, disease ridden bathroom somewhere and a second be Justin Beiber, attacked by either a wild, mange ridden animal or a shark, while surfing ....

Taxi is a classic Comedy sitcom. I wish Hollywood will honor Jeff by NOT making a remake/reboot of Taxi. Rest In Peace, Jeff.

Nobody on Celebrit Rehab needs to clean up. They're all exactly where they want to be in life. f*cked up and on tv.

Yeah, nothing says "I'm clean and sober and I'm gonna stay that way! " like an O'D celebrities corpse rotting away months after it's found hunched over with syringes sticking out of it like a human pincushion.

A. d*ck Van Dyke ... although, TECHNICALLY, he stopped alcholism before telvesion corporate schills ever thought about trying to commercialize the rehabilitation of celebrities, all the while subsidized by blatant advertizing that continues to convince thousands, tens of thousands of viewing "sheep" to buy things they don't need and to live a life so financially in debt, they feel like shaving a LITTLE TO CLOSE to the jugular with that just bought razor blade.

God, Jeff Conaway looks like the Cryptkeeper if he had a full head of hair and a George Hamilton-Lite tan from a Spray In A Can.

Geez Max...

My entertainment history knowledge goes back a ways... I knew about d*ck Van Dyke (great name... d*ck AND dyke in the same name... only way to improve that were to name him: d*ck Von Dyke! --- kinda regal, kinda d*ckish) and his booze problem, but it's so long ago not many do. Was that from Julie Andrews on Craig Ferguson (who, by the way has the BEST sidekick on TV today!) recently, or are you going on memory?

Taxi humor...

I can watch Cheers... and find it unfunny.

I find the oldest episodes of MASH (first 2 maybe 3 seasons) hysterical (still), as I do any episode of Taxi or All in the Family (because the world is too much a p*ssy-f'ing PC to run a show like that one again) and still laugh myself silly. Timeless stuff.

Taxi: Rev. Jim's driver test or all the guys babysitting Elaine's kid at the Spelling Bee and Louie is trying to make side bets with the other parents, or the Cab Co's Owner's wife trying to sleep with Louie (and there is another episode I'm trying to think of)... all top episodes.

@Ranger

Not really. They reviewed the subject when he was being interviewed by Tavis Smiley the other day.

Sorry to return my comment so late. Was out doing chores this Memorial Day, so I could get caught up.

Babylon 5 is an AMAZING series. Taking 5 seasons to tell one story was clearly the model for Battlestar Galactica's 5-year run.
