Kathryn Bigelow's "Triple Frontier" Stolen by Director Jose Padilha

Brazilian director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) has already been handed the "Robocop" reboot and he has now teamed up with "Gran Torino" writer Nick Schenk to develop "Tri-Border."

The new movie focuses on the infamous lawless South American zone trisected by Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, where competing crime organizations and law enforcement agencies fight for the upper hand.

The story will revolve around a Boston-based DEA agent who is unwillingly sent to Paraguay for having busted the son of an US senator during a drug raid. The agent strives to understand how the tri-border zone works in order to capture a leading drug dealer, who is his ticket home.

The subject matter of "Tri-Border" is exactly the same as "Triple Frontier," a project that Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) announced a few months back. She has temporarily put it on hold to focus on "Kill Bin Laden." Apparently Padilha liked the idea of a film about the tri-border zone and took the opportunity to quickly develop his own version, likely killing Bigelow's movie.

Don't think it will kill Bigelow's movie, how many times have Hollywood come out with the same movie in a short space of time.

Maybe her one will be better.

Another misleading headline!

Don't use the word steal. Padilha is working in a project about a DEA agent in the triple frontier since 2008, but it has been in development hell since.

Here is a brazillian movie news site talking about this:

Please get it right

Padilha needs to drop this snoozefest and get to work filming Frank Miller's brutal Robocop script.

I need two volunteers to help me give Kathryn Bigelow a "Triple Frontier"

No more f*cking Robocop. Guy turns into a machine, starts killing bad guys. Yeah, seen it. Unless it's going to explore the philosophy and psychology of a man in a machine's body, f*ck it. Save the sadism for the low-brows.

Count me in Ranger, let's film it in 3D and send it to Cameron !!

The next Robocop script definitely does explore the ghost-in-the-machine concept. If I told you how this one ends, you'd be salivating over it.
But it's the sort of surprise that should remain a surprise. It would be like giving away the ending of The 6th Sense.

But yes, Frank Miller's Robocop script is violent, satirical, dystopic, metaphysical, and in my opinion was the best comic book of 2010. It also proves Frank Miller can still tell a great story.

You mean the ending where he turns his police car around? Yeah, I don't see them making that into a film. Hell, there's like fifteen minutes of dialogue in the entire 9-part series.
rabid writes:

I assume you're reading a different book. Miller's is overstuffed with dialogue, and it ends with Murphy shedding all his programmed directives in a Neo moment, so that he's 100% human mentality again.
ED-209 even makes an appearance as an immobile street cop, and the social commentary is more biting than They Lives.
