Warner Bros Replacing "Harry Potter" with "Lost Years of Merlin"

Warner Bros Replacing "Harry Potter" with "Lost Years of Merlin"Submit Comment
Warner Bros has hired Ed Whitworth (a script reader for Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Production) to write the script for "The Lost Years of Merlin," a big budget adaptation of the first book in TA Barron's fantasy series.

The film is an origin story of Merlin and follows the mythical wizard's journey from being a boy washed on the shores of Wales with no memory and no home, to him becoming a young man learning to use his powers and ultimately defender of the natural world and eventual mentor to King Arthur.

Paramount previously owned the project, which was written by Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes). The option eventually ran out and Warners stepped in during their search of a replacement for their "Harry Potter" franchise.

Warners got lucky once with a wizard, Don't think lightening will be striking twice for them with this.

What do you mean replacing? You can't just replace the most successful movie franchise of all time. This isn't Buddhism. Reincarnation doesn't apply in Hollywood. And I try and keep an eye out for new books, and I'm a huge Potter fan. I have to say I have never even heard of this. Percy Jackson, sure I read it. And it was good. And wildly successful. Did anyone see it? No. And ironically, Potter's original director helmed that. No, WB, you are not replacing Potter, you're just f*cking a whore without a condom after your hot wife left you. You're super excited to bust a nut, but you soon realize you're $150,000,000 in the hole and have contracted Chlamydia.

Harry Potter sucked any way the books were OK for a child but the franchise of films were only visually satisfying. Plus the main character Daniel Radcliffe was a f*cking pleb who can't act for sh*t.

Pleb LOL !!!!

They will end up with a Harry Potter spin off movie and i hope it's about hermione finding her sexuality in a modern world.

Sounds like Mrs Rowling told WB to F$%k off for the 50th time and it finally sunk in.

This proves again that film execs have no idea what makes movies work.

There's too much Arthurian Legend on TV at the minute though. Camelot and Merlin returning.
Eva Green :)

Trailer- That sounds like a franchise I can get behind "Hairy Twatter and Paedophiles Bone(r)?" "Hermoine's Filthy Chamber of Secrets" or Jakes favourite... "Harry c*cker and the Bath Tub Prince"

From the scar on the forehead to the pet owl, Potter is just a ripoff of Neil Gaimen's Books of Magic. It's a shame that there's no body rushing to tell that story.
LastActionHero writes:

Harry Potter had a built in audience. I don't see this being successful.
minkowski writes:

Neil Gaimen has virtually no public cachet, so it'll never happen unless the studios reach a new level of desperation. And they're all rip-off's of Arthurian legend, so who's f*cking who here?

Much prefer a Wheel of Time film...last i heard Universal were developing that but it's all gone quiet?

Warner Bros Replacing "Harry Potter" with "Lost Years of Merlin" ...

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 9.5 out of a 10.

Just to be fair.

As much as I'd love a Wheel of Time film I doubt it will ever come together, and if it did I think they would have a seriously hard time getting it right. The number of characters and subplots would be c*mbersome, and alot of the material would be tough to trim without losing something important from the feel.
