Ridley Scott's "Red Riding" Hires "Amazing Spider-Man" Writer

James Vanderbilt, the writer of "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "Zodiac," has been hired to pen the script for "Red Riding," Columbia Pictures' adaptation of the popular British TV movies. Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien) is attached to direct.

"The Red Riding" story adapts four books by David Pearce and tracks the disappearance and grisly murders of several young girls as well as police corruption in a British town.

The stories took place from 1974 to 1983, and included a large cast consisting of a journalist, a solicitor, a reverend, a male prostitute, a businessman, many police officers, and assorted wives and lovers.

Red Riding was a brilliant series for Channel 4

I'm not sure how it will translate to the big screen though, it was a pretty deep layered show and can't really see how they could squeeze it all in to just one movie.

It was perfect for TV IMO and well worth checking out.

The 1974 episode had Sean Bean and Andrew Garfield in it.

Didn't know it was a show, just thought of it as a trilogy. Really liked it though, part 1 and 2 is excellent but the third one didn't do the others justice. And if they are cramming all history in to one film, I bet they will focus more on the third part.

AYT -

Well worth it mate, As Freud said 74 and 80 are the more accomplished parts over the last entry 1983.

Kind of like Martina Cole's (the skank) The Take with Tom Hardy which came out about the same time, that lost it's way in the last 1/4 which was a shame it was good up until that point.

Still wellworth watching and has to be better than Britians Got Tallent , lol

@tt

Exactly what I was thinking.

Vanderbilt did a great job on "Zodiac", but it won't be an easy task to translate the trilogy to the big screen if they'll try to stuff it into one movie.

yep it was a pretty disturbing and moving three part tv drama, about pedophile police ring jumps back and fourth through time 70s and 80s and can only get better with scott directing it.

Part 1 was ok. But Part 2 definetly was like seeing The Departed!!!!! It was so freaking goood this 2nd installment that I couldnīt figure out the twist at the end of this chapter!!!! Part 3 was good too but canīt never be compare with part 2, just check it out!!!!

Really good series! Not possible to do one movie with material tho.

Also, it's probably getting remade because Americans can't understand what they are speaking in this movie.

Yeah, I'm sure Ridley Scott is in this just to "Americanize" it for all us dumb yanks. God, we have such a difficult time understanding all you Brits out there. Must be why RDJ got the part of Holmes instead of a noble English actor with a classically trained Shakespearean background
