"The Dark Tower" is Moving Forward But With Changes

"The Dark Tower" is Moving Forward But With ChangesSubmit Comment
Universal Pictures has been developing Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" as a trilogy of films, but recently decided to take a step back and decide whether it wants to proceed with such a large investment. There was even talks of director Ron Howard (Da Vinci Code) taking the property to another studio, possibly Warner Bros.

THR has now learned that Universal will be keeping "The Dark Tower," but not under the same terms. The plan is to lower the budget and Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Cinderella Man) is already re-writing the script with that in mind.

A start date has yet to be announced, but it will likely not be in the fall, as originally promised. Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) was attached to star, but that may now change as well. Stay tuned.

Why not call it The Changing Tower? Seeing as everything about this production is changing.

Itīs this the road they are taking to make film... well I just have to say this one is going to be an epic fail..... Even making the TDT in trilogy canīt be save it!!!! You had to make the film according to the books. If they are seven books you have to make 7 films. What is that crap about making 3 movies of 7 books and even making a tv series. Is sh*t!!!! Ask Peter Jackson why he didnīt make 1 film of the 3 books of LOTRŋ? Come On!!!! If Universal is so scare to make this project and even donīt have the balls to do it. Donīt do it!!!! Just stop making us miserable our life about an adaptation we never going to see. Just continue making your crappy films that bombs at the BO every weekend!!!!!

Changes have to be made to make it suitable for filming. King filled his books with a lot of extraneous scenes that don't impact the main story at all. I assume they want to either lower the budget or create fewer films. It's a long saga... but it doesn't have to be that long.

That's f*cked up indeed. Rewriting the script to reflect a diminished budget? Bad news, That means all the mood- and environment-setting set pieces are getting cut, and that means essentially a film far removed fromt he imaginative depiction found inside the books.

I would suggest writing this one off.
