Warner Bros Now Owns Rotten Tomatoes and FlixsterSubmit Comment
In an effort to expand its digital rollout, Warner Bros Home Entertainment has announced that an agreement to buy the popular Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes websites has been made. Flixster owns Rotten Tomatoes.

"Driving the growth of digital ownership is a central, strategic focus for Warner Bros," said the studio. "The acquisition of Flixster will allow us to advance that strategy and promote initiatives that will help grow digital ownership."

The obvious issue is that Warners will have the ability to adjust the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes to make their films seem more accepted by the critics.

The studio has explained that both Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes will continue to operate independently, and that the reason for the acquisition has more to do with Flixster's film discovery application that is used by 25 million people per month.

Sources claim that the deal for around $60 million.

I always thought that Metacritic has a better (and more accurate) method of rating movies anyway. Still, this isn't really good news...

Should be interesting to see how ratings on their own movies change. RIP-RottenTomatoes

Metacritic is such a dodgy website. At least Rotten Tomatoes gives somewhat of an insight into the sorts of reviews a film is getting.

I mean, what reviews does Metacritic pick, for example? I think for Fast Five, I saw 10 reviews, maybe? I don't know exactly how it works though.

Metacritic has always been better. This affirms it.

'Driving the growth...'

Um, cool? How is that a bad thing.

The Metacritic score is so vague, that's not even the last place I would check for a movies consensus. I always thought RT had a more insightful and sensible way of rounding up reviews.

If Warner Bros. ended up buying WP that wouldn't be such a bad thing, I don't see how it would. It would put it on the map.

But then again we'd probably get more chodes roaming around this place.
