"Paranormal Activity 3" Hires Writer

After "Paranormal Activity" hit theaters and grossed $193 million in worldwide ticket sales, nobody expected for Paramount Pictures to greenlit a sequel despite such amazing return.

But the studio bet that audiences would return for a second installment. And it bet right, because "Paranormal Activity 2" grossed $176 million at the worldwide box office.

Then, a third film was greenlit, scheduled to hit theaters on October 21st, exactly one year after the second film. But that was announced back in November and there has been zero progress, until now. Deadline has learned that Paramount Pictures has officially brought back "Paranormal Activity 2" writer Christopher Landon to pen the third installment.

So is it going to be another white suburban family that likes to film themselves in a scary voyeristic way??

i know the saw films was kinda the same stuff each year, they still had a story in there which for saw fans is why they kept on watching, but after seeing two of the exact same films (paranormal 1&2) with different actors, how can they make anything different in a 3rd one, and being that the 1st two were sh*t, who no's how sh*t this one will be???

*unless the leads are black*

@ j-man

I dont think they were the same movie. PA2 went a bit further with what the "entity" actually physically did. It would be interesting to see how a black, hispanic or asian family reacts to such activity. I mean Eddy Murphy and other black comedians always make fun of scared white people in movies and say they would've done differently so I'd like to see that LOL.

I wonder if they notice that with each sequel, less money is made.

Nah.

Writer? Those movies had a writer?

These things can't have writers. They're actual footage obtained by police! It says so in the beginning! That premise will never get old as long as police keep finding these tapes!

@dbreuning: we already saw what would happen. Remember Scary Movie 1? The scene with the black reporters reporting that white folks were getting killed and that "lets get the f--- out of here." lol.

' we're reporting live for black tv, white folks are dead and we're gettin the f*ck outta here, hurry up, lets go motherf*cker'

If they're going to do it (which obviously they are) then they've got to spice up the formula for it - similar to how the second had multiple cameras.

Or...maybe they should just make it like any other film, and scrap the hand-held camera business - make an actual, old fashioned haunting film.

"Paranormal Activity 3" Hires Writer ... proof that Columbian drug money still is the trade and stock in good ol' Hollyweird (for funding)

@ j-man and Luminus: yeah that was freaking funny.

Still going to see part 3 in theaters since I saw 1 and 2. Love those kind of movies. Thought 1 was smart and original. 2 was more of the same but still had different stuff happening and went a bit further.
