Warner Bros Raises "Green Lantern" Budget to Finish on Time

Warner Bros Raises "Green Lantern" Budget to Finish on TimeSubmit Comment
With under two months before the release of "Green Lantern," Warner Bros just invested another $9 million into the film in order to hire new visual effects workers. The studio claims it will meet the June 17th release date, but ran into trouble due to the amount of other effects-heavy films that are putting stress on the industry.

Warners isn't the only studio grappling with these issues. Paramount's "Captain America" is on a shorter schedule than Marvel prefers, and is now feeling the pressure. On Paramount's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," at least one visual effects studio is now working seven-day per weeks, 12 hours a day, and canceled the Easter Sunday holiday for its staff members.

Going forward, studios will have to figure out a way to avoid a last-minute crunch. "The Avengers," "Superman: Man of Steel," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" have all given themselves extra time to get the effects right.

To get an idea of what kind of effects are needed for "Green Lantern," we attached two new posters for the movie, featuring Sinestro and Kilowog. Check them out below.

I hope they don't spend $9 million only to make blake lively look more attractive.

So the $9mil is to just meet the deadline, and not necessarily make the effects better? I hope they upped their standards by about 3000% after we saw that first released trailer. Because those effects sucked.

I'm in favor of the budget increase. This movie has some serious potential IMO, and all it honestly needs (besides good plotting and characters) is aesthetic appeal cause lets face it its centers on alien worlds and the only way for the audience to buy it is if the effects are strong.

9 mill to make Blake look like she can act i bet.

@Chewy - read again my friend. The $'s aren't for better effects, it's just to get them done on time with extra staff hired.

I still think it'll be good. Warner Bros. already knows that first released trailer sucked (special effect-wise).

SPI is the main effects house on GL.

IMHO, of all the majors them and Rhythm&Hues make the most cartoonish CGI.

ILM, WETA, Digital Domain and Tippett studio are the best when it comes to digital characters.

Wow, the idea of making a sequel must be dreadful for those poor guys.

All I know is that Mark's going to own that role.

They should stop anouncing release dates before the movie even goes into production and take their time and get it done right. Then they would have a more amicable release date.

They should push the release date back to July or August just to make sure its done right. I'd hate to see them f*ck up the theatrical release then 4 months later we hear about all the infighting and then get a directors cut on DVD.

Executives are probably pissed the film has gone over budget. This does not bode well for Martins reputation on working on american productions.

Please let this movie kick ass, I'm getting a funny feeling which usually preceeds a big fart or one heck of a bomb.
