Dish Network to Keep 600 Blockbuster Stores Open

Dish Network to Keep 600 Blockbuster Stores OpenSubmit Comment
Earlier this month, Dish Network purchased Blockbuster for $320 million after the rental company filed for bankruptcy due massive debt and struggling stores.

After the acquisition, many assumed that Dish would immediately start closing the Blockbuster stores and instead focus on digital offerings and the DVD-by-mail service.

Now comes word that the company will actually keep 600 Blockbuster stores out of 1,726 open. That means that 1,126 stores will be shut down. Dish has yet to disclose its plan going forward.

Sure they'll keep them open. They're full of inventory and they want to make a chunk of their $320mil back.

So the headline should have read:

'Dish Network to Keep 600 Blockbuster Stores Open... for now.'

Not in where I live, all have been closed.

Same here. Not one left.

"Sure they'll keep them open. They're full of inventory and they want to make a chunk of their $320mil back."

You may be right. They can make far more money on rentals they could ever by simply liquidating the inventory. They're DVDs after all, mostly, and some games, so they won't bring much resale value.

And Netflix sent employees out to dance on former Blockbuster locations.

Redbox bought up former Blockbuster venues just to use the sign to advertise for Redbox.

I've got more of these.
