Is James Franco's "The Stare" the Next "Black Swan"?

Posted: April 18th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Is James FrancoSubmit Comment
James Franco and Winona Ryder have signed on for "The Stare," a drama to be directed by Jay Anania that sounds very similar to Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," which Ryder also starred in. The film will begin shooting on May 6th in New York.

"The Stare" revolves around a playwright (Ryder) who finds her mind beginning to warp as she struggles to launch her next production. She's plagued by dreams and visions of being watched, but can't decide if she's at the center of a manipulative plot or simply losing her grip on reality. Franco plays one of the performers in the playwright's production.

Franco has previously worked with Anania last year in "Shadows and Lies," which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Sounds like Beautiful Mind, but just not nearly as engaging.

SOOOO now every movie that deals with mental illness is like black swan? I think that's giving black swan a little too much credit. I mean this doesn't sound like black swan at all. Maybe if it included a lesbian sex scene, a freudian domineering mother who makes her daughter lick white frosting off her finger and all took place in the world of ballet, I might be more apt to make the comparison. I loved black swan though... thought it was cheated out of a best picture oscar. It was a very tricky concept that was extremely hard to pull off successfully and it succeeded. King's speech was a no brainer movie. It's about english monarchy, has a handicapped protagonist, and is filled with oscar nominees. Of course it won
