Sean Penn May Join Christian Bale in "The Last Photograph"Submit Comment
Deadline is reporting that Sean Penn is in talks to join Christian Bale in "The Last Photograph," which will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) from a script by Kurt Johnstad (300). The film is based on an idea by Zack Snyder, who set it up at Warner Bros after directing "300."

Set in Afghanistan, Bale plays a war correspondent who witnesses and is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans. If cast, Penn will play a retired ex-special ops soldier who comes to the scene determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped. The journalist agrees to help identify the kidnappers and travel the rough terrain to find them, in exchange for the story. The road brings them in confrontation with tribal regions of Afghanistan, and none of the diplomats will help.

The plan is to begin filming next year, after Bale completes "The Dark Knight Rises." The offer to Penn is just one out of many that Warner Bros has sent to the actor. He was recently in talks for the studio's "Superman" reboot and "Gangster Squad." Penn turned down both, but is interested in starring in a war film.

Could be good, not too keen on political war films but Oplev is a sh*t hot director. Penn and Bale seem to be among the few remaining actors who choose their roles wisely and haven't sold their souls to the studios yet.

there is a lotta talent attached to this (zack snider may be questionable).

penn and bale would probably be a good combination on the screen.

No more f*cking war movies starring that illiterate self-made peacenik messiah Penn.

How about a film that eplores the glory of battle? Is that even still possible?

Give war a chance. Because contrary to what liberals and cowards (the same, really) say, it's solved plenty of problems.

They should cast Charlie Sheen and Nick Cage and change the title to 'The Thin White Line'.
