"Ant-Man" Script is Complete and in Marvel's Hands

Posted: April 10th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Ant-Man" Script is Complete and in MarvelSubmit Comment
Edgar Wright has been working on the "Ant-Man" script with "Attack the Block" helmer Joe Cornish for several years. But when "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" became his next project, Wright had to take a break from "Ant-Man."

Then in January, he revealed that he has resumed writing the script. And now comes word from Cornish that things are moving forward. "We delivered the second draft of 'Ant-Man' two days ago, and we're really happy with it," he said at Kapow! Comic Con on Saturday.

Marvel Studios has previously mentioned that "Ant-Man" is part of their group of films that will be released after "The Avengers," but the studio has yet to greenlight it. The latest rumor points at Adrien Brody being the current favorite for the lead role.

Sounds like an action version of "Honey, I shrunk the kids."

I hate Edgar Wright movies, but I'm a big fan of Hank Pym, so I'm interested.

"After discovering a size-altering chemical substance, biophysicist and nanotechnology expert Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym decided to become a superhero. Armed with a helmet that could control ants, Pym would shrink down to the size of an insect to become the mystery-solving Ant-Man"

That's the dumbest thng...oh nevermind. If he could shrin to the size of an ant (an ant??) why not just grw to the size of a building?

Sounds to me this character was created because someone said, "ook we already have a 'spider man', so what other silly insect names can we attached to the word 'man' in order to create a character?', and someone said, "how about an ant?".

And then they either had to make really large ants, thus invoking the worst of 50's sci-fi b-movies, or they had to shrink the man.

Lame.

he can and does get as big as a building. the whole control ants crap really isn't Pym's only ability. he is way more powerful (and more interesting) then his earlier incarnations. Also he made Ultron.

minkowski writes:

Well, then. I stand corrected. I know nothing of the character save what I read on Wiki.

They instead should make a film about this 'man', because he rocks.

He really does have more character than most of Marvel's creations. He's a schizoid mind, a wife beater, a giant, a dwarf, a hero, a villain, and the third smartest brain on Marvel Earth.
markoz writes:

I'll watch this just because it's a superhero movie and because it ties in with The Avengers. But I would rather like to see his Giant Man incarnation in Ultimates version

Oh,and speaking of comic book movies Michael Shannon is set to play General Zod in new Superman

I had thought that Hank Pym had debuted months earlier than Peter Parker/Spiderman, and that his Ant-Man super heroic persona had also debuted first as well.

Pym is one of those Marvel characters that has plenty of potential, his biggest flaw being that with Marvel his potential is completely wasted. And a good indication of that with this particular character is the main thing that sticks in most comic book fan's minds is that he had a hankering to bitchslap his wife several times during their marriage.

But there's a lot more to him than that. First of all most science type guys in the Marvel universe tend to specialize as Tony Stark does electronics, power armor, weapons/weapon systems. And that's the way it pretty much works with a majority of Marvel's scientists. The major exceptions being Reed Richards and Dr. Doom who both have been shown to be experts in anything remotely resembling science.

Hank Pym after those two is the biggest example of that exception. He's the type of scientist that could be at a picnic and some ants get on his sandwich, and the next thing you know he's running to the lab to make up a bunch of ant based technology.

He's epiphany guy, the type that has had hundreds of stroke of complete genius that would have given Edison an immediate hard-on when contemplating hiring him.

Historically there's a bit of an element of Leonardo Da Vinci in Henry Pym, especially with his initial Ant-Man persona. It is the intense studying of nature to produce ingenious out-of-the box technology.

And even with his potential severely limited by being a Marvel character, I would have to say that two of his inventions speak volumes about his abilities as a scientist and inventor.

1. An offhanded experiment in artificial intelligence of his eventually produced Ultron. And Ultron has taken on complete Avenger teams including Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor multiple times.

2. He gave his girlfriend superpowers.

Say what you will, having a guy on the team that can give other people super powers is an asset.

Gary Coleman would have been perfect as one of the ants.

While not the worst character,I cant see how they could successfully market this as a live action film. Save it for an animation film..and make a movie on another character that can actually transfer to a film, or even better, put more time and effort into making sure your movies are decent
