Update: "Deadpool" Hires Rookie Director

Update: "Deadpool" Hires Rookie DirectorSubmit Comment
Robert Rodriguez was previously in talks to direct "Deadpool," but ended up dropping out. Then came word that 20th Century Fox was looking for comedy helmers.

Deadline is now reporting that the studio has hired Tim Miller, a visual effects guru who has worked on such films as "X-Men," "Planet of the Apes," and "Daredevil." He will be making his directorial debut on "Deapool."

Ryan Reynolds is planning to reprise his role, but the film will have little to do with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." The actor previously decided to star in "R.I.P.D." before "Deadpool," but his co-star Zach Galifianakis just dropped out due to a scheduling conflict. This may delay "R.I.P.D." long enough for Reynolds to make "Deadpool" first.

Update: According to Production Weekly, "Deadpool" is actually called "X-Men Origins: Deadpool."

What happened to that Swedish director who directed that visually outstanding robbery short scene?

I don't like this new director...

Couldn't Zach Galifianakis drop out of life too?

Zach Galifagimnotfunny should just go away. Anyways, visual effects guru? Not even second unit director. Unless he's got some talent, this is risky. A Deadpool film has so much potential, but to be killed off by a relative newcomer (at least to directing) is a gamble.

But, then again. It's Fox.

Wasn't Battle LA created by visual effects gurus? Where the visual effects were spot on but the plot was written with a crayon and characters were just props rounded up from the local mall.

What plot? Isn't Battle:LA an 90min video game cut scene?

I dont think Deadpool will ever happen.

There goes FOX again getting someone that they can easily push around to make the movie that they want to make. Those people at fox have done terrific job for ruining another comic book movie.

They picked the guy because people were so impressed by his animated short films for the DCOnline game. He directed that big opening action scene people were clammoring about.

The Japan storyline is pretty simple, and the if the script is already Aranofsky-approved, then pretty much anyone could direct this action film. Pretty obvious though that Reynolds won't be attached to this when it finally starts hapening.

Even though I would really like Reynolds to star in this film, the only thing I want is for Universal, Fox and Micro$oft to know what did they lose by letting go Neill Blomkamp.

I got sidetracked and thought I was posting about wolverine.
Yeah this guy will do.
And this is Dane Cook's chance at a comeback. He'd make a zany Wade Wilson.

thanks fox, looking forward to another half assed attempt to make a comic movie. yet another character of my child hood fantasies raped on the big screen. I dream of the day all xmen rights are returned back to marvel studios.

I thought for a minute it was this Tim Miller:

http://timmillerperfomer.blogspot.com/

Whew.

So, how long can FOX going on f*cking up this film before Marvel says enough, and makes it themselves?

"Yeah this guy will do.'

I don't see how you can think that. He's had ten years at Rhythm and Hues and Blur Studios working with Autodesk's Inferno doing *compositing*, but nothing to say that he can direct.

"And this is Dane Cook's chance at a comeback. He'd make a zany Wade Wilson."

You should be shot and tortured and then shot again just for mentioning Dane Cook's name.

"Wasn't Battle LA created by visual effects gurus?"

Yes, but of course using a massive team of modelers, texture artists, compositors, riggers,, et cetera.

Tim Miller has used pretty much one system (Inferno) doing one sort of job (compositing).

Fox must either know something we don't about the guy or they're very, very desperate to make this film happen.

@rocketman
If you mean brutally rape the origin yes they did
,But deadpool is a great anti hero that deserves better with all this nonsense going on I say drop the project 20th century fox..just take this lost like a champ and give the rights to marvel studios cause they wont f*ck their own product up like you..

Wait .... a visual effect manager is going to direct the movie ? Didn't they already learn from the sh*tstink that Zach Snyder did with Sucker Paunch ? .... obviously not.

Uhm. NO. HEEELLLLL NO.

I don't get it. X-Men origins is supposed to be for actual..X-men. You know, mutants. Did I miss something, or is FOX really f*cking up the title too?
rabid writes:

It's simple marketing. They'll all be lined up in a row at the dvd store/rental/netflix/whatever.
rabid writes:

@ Max
Like a lot of people, you underestimate Dane Cook. The guy can't write a joke, but acting is something he's pretty decent at. And he's athletic enough to do the wire-fu. Last time I saw him he had bulked up a lot.
I think it's obvious they're not going to wait forever for Reynolds to sign up.
