Trailer: Roland Emmerich's "Anonymous" Shakespeare Thriller

Columbia Pictures has unveiled the trailer for their upcoming Shakespeare thriller "Anonymous," which stars Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave. Check it out below.

Plot: The film tries to answer the question: Who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare? Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories. "Anonymous" poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

"Anonymous" is directed by Roland Emmerich, the man behind "Independence Day," "Godzilla," "The Day After Tomorrow," and "2012." It is scheduled to hit theaters on September 30th.

"Who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare?"

Hundreds of years of scholarly research couldn't answer the question, but the man who made Godzilla can?

I need a drink.

It has awesome titles design, and of course it's using one of my favorite Radiohead songs, so that's major plus for this trailer.

Might be the only ones, because I doesn't provide any informations about actuall plot.

I wonder if they'll film on site of the newly reconstructed Globe Theater, rather than use sets and stage props.

Fascinating.

Surely there must be meteors, earthquakes or some other catastrophic events in this movie?!?! Right.......right?
minkowski writes:

Well, the original Globe Theater burned to the ground and the reconstructed one was torn asunder by Puritanical forces, so I'm sure there's some apocalyptic imagery in there somewhere.

Mink The Globe Theatre is the pride of North London. ( Ha Ha sorry Spurs and Arsenal,Again sorry football took over there for a minute)

It does have a real sense and feel of History about it even though it was moved up the road slightly when it was re-built in the early 1990's.

Can't imagine Roland hanging out down in Hackney he will just CGI that sh*t up from the comfort of his LA studio no doubt

Yeah, I read they moved it about 750 feet or so and marked the original Globe's foundations, which are now under some tenement buildings.

And you're right, he won't use the new Globe's location, just some cheap CGI and colored cardboard.

What a hack.

Conspiracies are like *ssholes, everyone has one. And I can't wait until Roland Emmerich gets hold of the "Chunky vs Smooth" peanut butter conspiracy.

Just because a movie with lots of massive exploding vats of JiF an Peter Pan appeals to me for some reason.

Roland Emmerich: You know what this conspiracy needs? Lots of explosions and CGI.

For a minute I was very confused. Could Emmerich really have restrained himself and made a period piece? Then I saw the flames, some guys fighting with swords and some crossbows. Now I feel safe again.
