Update: "Planet of the Apes" Prequel Renamed Again

Update: "Planet of the Apes" Prequel Renamed AgainSubmit Comment
When 20th Century Fox first announced a "Planet of the Apes" prequel, the film was called "Caesar" after the character in "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes," the fourth installment in the original series.

The studio then renamed the film "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" and the finally settled on "Rise of the Apes." We have already seen the latest title in some of the early marketing, but Fox is at it again.

The studio is worried that "Rise of the Apes" may not be enough for fans to connect the name with franchise. So the solution has been to change the title yet again to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

It's a bit wordy, but there's no confusion that this is another "Planet of the Apes" film.

Update: 20th Century Fox just revealed that the film will hit theaters on August 5.

I'm just glad Fox have cleared up all the confusion that would have accrued at the cinemas this summer.

It has franco as the lead so that's a sign of failure

I saw that name on a swedish moviesite. Thought it was a typo. "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is among the worst titles ever.

They do think best of their audiences ... Apes in the name, or in possible trailers would not be the giveaway to the enlightened audiences, wonder what we could have thought of Rise of the apes ... maybe a docudrama in the suburbs? a gritty Bieber like musical??? Maybe the correct title should be: "Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a prequel (plot is before the original plot of the Planet of the Apes Tim Burton movie with Marky Mark), and there are humanoid Apes in this movie" (Apes written 3 times in the title, should do the trick). How can they make a prequel, wouldn't that confuse people unable to connect these movies? Will actors speak slowly because us retards would not be able to follow delicate script? Or maybe drop script altogether, just make us shiny costumes and a couple of explosions and effects. How can Planet of the Apes rise anyway?

Hollywood treats the masses like retarded 12 year old's and the masses repay them by buying into such madness. I say let's find out where Hollywood lives and write him angry letters threatening to rape all of his pets.

Great because we were confused in trying to determine out of all the advanced apes movies which one this was tied to.

Well of course, FOX!

Fans would think it's a movie about chilean miners.

All the titles of the movies was like that so continuity wise it works. Remember it # Planet of the Apes (1968), Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), and Battle for the Planet of the Apes. None were that catchy but I guess it fits the "style" of the others in terms of presentation.

Interesting ... wasn't there a Rise of Cobra movie a while ago that spread super AIDS in Cinemas .... STOP USING " RISE " its getting to be a cliche' . Between RISE, REVENGE , and RETURNS I'm beginning to think Directors and movie studios don't know how to crack open a thesaurus . Just make this " Plant of the Apes 7.0 " .
