Sean Hayes is Larry in "The Three Stooges"

Sean Hayes is Larry in "The Three Stooges"Submit Comment
Last month, it was revealed that Will Sasso ("MADtv") has been cast as Curly in "The Three Stooges" movie, which will be directed by the Farrelly brothers (Dumb and Dumber).

At the time, it was rumored that James Marsden (X-Men) may end up playing Larry. But now comes word that Sean Hayes ("Will and Grace") has won that role. Still up for grabs is the part of Moe. It's been said that Hank Azaria ("The Simpsons") is the frontrunner.

The plan is to divide the PG-rated film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy. Filming is set for next month in Rhode Island.

Larry was gay?

ah. Wow. How quickly this film has fallen apart. From Oscar-winning actors to sitcom has-beens in a year.

Instead of playing Larry, wouldn't Sean be the better choice to play (Ho)Moe?

^^ No doubt!! This movie appears to be getting worse and worse IMHO. PG rating, 'Oscar winning actors to sitcom has-beens', and the I still don't like the 3 27 minute segments comment.

At least Sasso "looks" the part...
I wonder who gets to play Shemp?
zyban03 writes:

@Relayer

Haven't heard anyting about Shemp. I think their sticking to the original 3 members Larry Moe and Curly
minkowski writes:

^^That's correct. Shemp replaced Curly when the big bald guy's health went south.

Johnny Knoxville should be moe imo. I think he looks exactly like him. Not to mention he loves to hit people in the head so this would be perfect for him.

Will Sasso and Sean Hayes in the three stooges?! Really I thought at least hollywood would respect the legends and cast some Oscar winning actors but instead they hired a fat guy that was only funny for a year a gay guy who hasnt had work since he lame sitcom..The only guy I like is Hank Azaria he can def pull off a moe BUT know hollywood they will give lindsey lohan a sex change and make her play it...
c-prime writes:

Terrible casting. I was fine with Sasso, but Hayes is simply inexcusable. I mean, I've heard of casting against type, but in what plane of existence would he make a remotely passable Larry Fine? The Farrelly's have gotten lazy with the casting. Honestly, Hayes would make a better Joe than a Larry (and if they decide to give the former stooge an appearance in the film, then I'm panning it at all costs - I can't stand that bastard).

"I mean, I've heard of casting against type, but in what plane of existence would he make a remotely passable Larry Fine?"

I think what all of you are missing here is the point of this film.

Oscar winners? Seriously? Oscar winners to do a stupid slapstick comedy? You need a bunch of bumbling baffoons to pull this off correctly. Not Sean Penn.

Albeit, Sean Hayes is not the right choice, Jim Carrey should have done this but at the same time. THIS IS NOT A BIOPIC. It is a film about three incredibly clumsy fools doing hilarious sh*t. It's not about these guys lives, its a reimagining of The Three Stooges, told in the same way as the original films with Fine, and the Howards.

I think what everyone is expecting, or at least what it sounds like, is some look into the lives of the men that WERE the Stooges.. Thats not what this film is going to be.

If you look at it as an updated version of something that USED to be. You may have more faith in the film. It's supposed to be a stupid comedy, it makes absolutely no difference whether or not the actors that play these characters look anything like the originals. Why would it? It's again, not a f*cking biopic.

On a lighter note, just finished a screening of Hobo with a Shotgun. and, YES, It is as f*cking awesome as you would hope. Rutger Hauer is a straight up pimp in the movie. Blows any exploitation driven vehicle from the last decade right out of the f*cking water.

Amazing film, you will all be pleasantly surprised at the awesomeness that is Hobo with a Shotgun.
minkowski writes:

I thought I already explained several times that this Three Stooges film is NOT a biopic, it is, instead, Dumb and Dumber 2 with three people instead of the two. And it's not even a film, it's a series of three film shorts.

Why don't people listen anymore?

As for Hobo, I saw it before you! Saw it last night. Goofy gore, and Hauer isn't nearly as bad ass as I had wanted, and it was somewhat akin to Machete in so many ways (scriptwise), but it wasn't too bad for a film that's intended for far more laughs than jawdrops.
triggax writes:

"was somewhat akin to Machete in so many ways (scriptwise)"

Agreed! I really enjoyed the film. I liked it far more than Machete but I can see the similarities.

Even though I loved the film, youre right, a few fresh ideas would have been nice. I thought Hauer was f*cking excellent though. Maybe its because I had NO expectations really going into it.

I'd still really like to see an adaptation of Edgar Wrights faux trailer, "Don't"
triggax writes:

"Why don't people listen anymore?"

I'm not saying this to be a d*ck, more so because it's true. Most people are either too stupid or they just plain don't like listening to you on here man..

I think I've read, probably 10 "ban mink" comments in the last month.

Not the case for me, and anyone else that enjoys good discussion. Anyone that frequents WP with half a brain knows the comments sections are far more comprehensive than the articles. Yet most users will just read the article, throw up some retarded gibberish about f*cking some poor girl in her ass and be done with it. Instead of adding to any discussion.

Its far more convenient not to listen. As you don't have to read.
Mr. Blonde writes:

Since the Farrelly Bros are directing, they should make and call each successive 27 minute segment literally "Dumb and Dumber and Dumbest". Since it is physical comedy, take this movie to the extreme. This will involve each character getting repeatedly hit in the head causing severe brain damage and stupidity. The last scene will be the Three Stooges sitting there like babbling idiots drooling in an insane asylum wearing straight jackets. Oh and still hitting each other in the head using their heads.
Mr. Blonde writes:

I hope Sean's contract requires him to shave his centre head bald and grow out the sides to afro. Go authentic, no bald wig for you.
minkowski writes:

" I thought Hauer was f*cking excellent though."

I had no issue with Hauer's work, but he did seem like the very hesitant hero, like Thomas Jane's Punisher.

His heart just wasn't in it, but that was obviously a fault of the way his character was portrayed and written and not an artifact of his acting skill.

"I'm not saying this to be a d*ck, more so because it's true"

Ah, but isn't it more fun to be both a d*ck and right? Come on Triggax, you know it is.

"I think I've read, probably 10 "ban mink" comments in the last month."

Only ten? I used to get that many a day and I also had three stalkers. I guess I've lost my verbal sex appeal.

"Most people are either too stupid or they just plain don't like listening to you on here man."

I believe that it's equal parts of both.

Let's face it, this place isn't exactly ripe with brilliance and the only reason I come here is because I can shoot off my mouth without having some goose-stepping admin run me off because he no like'a me. That and I love motion pictures.

Hell, I have to read Slashdot's comment sections just to recoup some of my lost IQ points, so AFAIC, the whiners can go kill themselves with rusty razor wire.

"Not the case for me, and anyone else that enjoys good discussion."

So then, that makes like two us then. No wonder I have to resort to verbal terrorism just to get a rise out of this place.

Of course, if Mr Big Bad Party Pooper *sshole (me) left, this place would happily and cheerfully return to Ranger's All Night Symphony of Lindsay Lohan jokes and his back-up singer groupie quartet.

That's what it was for the year or so I remained in lurker mode.

I read those threads. Totally unproductive, inconsequential and empty, unless of course you're stimulated by hearing one certified moron after another plug homo heart-throbs Arnie Hammer and Tom Hardy for every open casting call in America.

"Anyone that frequents WP with half a brain knows the comments sections are far more comprehensive than the articles."

Because what Alex calls news is something he borrowed from some other guy that was taken off the back of a corpse that was previously stolen from a homeless man's sh*t-stained underwear, while the actual comments are mostly the totally authentic chirping of imbecile ostriches?

*ban Mink!*

"Yet most users will just read the article, throw up some retarded gibberish about f*cking some poor girl in her ass and be done with it. Instead of adding to any discussion"

Yes, yes and yes, and you can see why, out of shear f*cking boredom, I have to improvise with my little verbal IEDs, because the threads here are about as stimulating as watching Olive Oyl do a streamtease.

I guess I should do more coke, heroin and hookers so I too can be loved.

Looking forward to Hobo with a Shotgun has to be one of the more interesting films to be coming out this year and as long as it gets close to that awesome poster and Trailer(s) i will be happy.

We have to wait till the end of July though.

Rutger Hauer is always pretty good even if the film he's in is not.

You can't beat Hauer in full crazy mode like the The Hitcher.

I Liked Machete as well, But i just felt it went on a little long even though it was only 105min just seem to run out of steam towards the end.

But the action was good, Decent cast and even Seagal wasn't to bad. Maybe they will make sequal some day.

minkowski writes:

Thanks aaron. Good to know I at least annoy someone.

And trailer, you can find the HD rip of Hobo on the net. I think that's what Trig meant by 'screening'. It's how I saw the film. And it isn't a terrible cam with bad line audio either, it's better than a DVD rip those hack shoddy release groups produce.

And, well hey, I'll try to be cuter and more cuddly in the future. I hope then someone will love me. Please, just love me. That's all I ask.
