"Resident Evil 5" is a Prequel, Title Revealed

"Resident Evil 5" is a Prequel, Title RevealedSubmit Comment
Bloody-Disgusting has now learned that the fifth "Resident Evil" movie will actually be a prequel which will take the franchise back to its roots. The site also got its hands on the film's logo, which reveals that the title of the new movie is "Resident Evil: Begins." Check out the logo below.

The prequel will be set in 1998, before the events of the first film. Sienna Guillor (pictured), who has already confirmed that she's returning to play Jill Valentine, will play the main character. Alice (Milla Jovovich) will still be in the movie, but will not be the main focus.

The story follows Valentine as she finds herself in the midst of the major viral outbreak caused by Umbrella corporation. The prequel is set to hit conventional and 3D theaters on September 14th, 2012.

good news
definitely will be better than Afterlife

But... wasn't Apocalypse pretty much the beginning? I mean when Jill comes in the picture the infection has only been in the city for like what, a couple of hours?

Wow, I can't believe I'm actually questioning logic when it comes to these movies.

It should've actually been called Resident Evil 5 : Because Paul WS Anderson Can't Help But Continually f*ck Up

@jdl107

It's okay. This series is proof positive that evolution is slowly reversing.

Keep churning out the prequels/sequels. f*ck, who needs originality!!!

@DAH

You sound like a Hollywood screenwriter, man.

So...after 4 installment, they decided to return to original concept/storyline? Too late.

"The prequel will be set in 1998, before the events of the first film"

"The story follows Valentine as she finds herself in the midst of the major viral outbreak caused by Umbrella corporation."

The most logical think, story wise is that this prequel should happen in between the end of the first Resident Evil, after Milla and the guy who will become Nemesis are taken by the Umbrella corporation, but before Milla wakes up in the hospital.

holtlt writes:

It should be called the beginning, and no it wont be the same as apocalypse...the original story is about Jill going with a group of commandos to the mansion to check up on several reported disturbances...it would be pretty much a different story

f*ck YOU! f*ck YOU! to all of those people involved with making the Resident Evil film franchise. i loved all the movies but you f*cking dumb retards should have ended the films with the fourth one but instead you choose to do a f*cking stupid prequel. you f*ckers gave us a ending that will lead to a Resident Evil 5. What the f*ck! but now you're doing a prequel about Jill it's too f*cking late for that. f*ck this sh*t i'm not gonna watch the prequel at all. f*ck movies now you guys f*cking piss me off.

So glad to have Alice back, she was such a huge part in the video games that she has to be in the new movie....
And what a sh*tty title "Begins"
They're trying to rip of Batman
Well jokes on you Anderson, Batman didn't need a colon in his title!

They should just scrap the whole thing, get a new director and script and reboot it as Biohazard
Whitta writes:

I think that this series will end up with more films than games soon enough
WV-Films writes:

What's odd about this, is back when RE:4 was in the works, they talked about relaunching with a SWAT type movie that would retell the events of the first movie while Alice is in her coma. So it sounds like they're still sticking with that.

However the whole idea just doesn't make sense. Why leave off on a huge cliffhanger just to come back with a prequel?

minkowski writes:

Very, very stupid title. It should be Resident Evil: Origins, not Resident Evil: Begins. Or beginnings, or Resident Evil Begins, but not 'begin' preceded by a f*cking colon.

Morons.
dirtydale writes:

I registered just to tell all the f*cking morons that believe this that this sh*tty site is using another site's April Fool's joke as their own news. Comicbookmovie.com reported this yesterday and used B-D.com as their source. Now this stupid site is reposting the same god damn false information and trying to pass it off as real. B-D.com doesnt have a single article on their site confirming any of this bullsh*t. Take about WORSTpreview.

Works for me. I f*cking love Sienna/Jill, and am Sick of Alice. Win-Win. They should feature Chris Redfield in this also.

Resident Evil 6 will be called The Dark Evil.

encoreyourface writes:

sounds like they're tired of making mediocre films and actually might want to TRY to make something decent.
minkowski writes:

They practically set up a fifth movie that was a SEQUEL when Jill shows up in her brainwashed state from Resident Evil 5 the game! You really going to leave people hanging like that.
brandonegc writes:

Everyone of these movies ends in a cliffhanger, Afterlife was no exception. I actually semi-enjoy the series, and this pisses me off they're not finishing the original story before they go back and tell us how it happend. I will not watch a prequel. If you want to reboot the series, finish the story arc you already started in the process.
UhOhZday writes:

@jdl107

I guessing it will shift to (hopefully) the actual first game, where Jill and Chris in the mansion fighting very first outbreak with Wesker.
murphyslaw93 writes:

They should have just stopped after the first one...which wasnt even that good
Pig Newtons writes:
on April 2nd, 2011 at 11:32:00 PM

Here's an idea:

Let's just forget the Resident Evil movies, and start with a direct adaptation of the videogames, starting with Resident Evil Zero. Instead of calling it Resident Evil, just call it "Biohazard" (which is what the games were called in Japan).
DaveThePhotoGuy writes:

So they are rebooting the franchise?
