"Strangers on a Train" Star Farley Granger Dead at 85

"Strangers on a Train" Star Farley Granger Dead at 85Submit Comment
Farley Granger, who played the likable tennis player who was thrust into a murder exchange in Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" in 1951, died Sunday of natural causes in New York. He was 85.

Three years earlier in 1948, Granger had won acclaim for another Hitchcock murder thriller, "Rope," in which he played a young pianist who perpetrates a Leopold Loeb-type murder with another student. Throughout 60 years of his career, the actor was kept very busy.

He even appeared in daytime soaps like "As the World Turns" and "The Edge of Night." Granger also made frequent guest appearances on such shows as "Tales From the Dark Side," "The Love Boat," "Murder, She Wrote" and "Monsters."

His last film appearance was in the satire "The Next Big Thing" in 2001.

"Strangers on a Train" and "Rope" are definitely on my top five list of best Hitchc*ck films.

It's funny when you hear about these people dying when you didn't know they were still alive in the first place. You think about people from films back in the fifties and think they're as long gone as the pharoahs.

RIP

@minkowski
i feel the same. but i usually think these awesome actors/actresses/writers/producers/directors, who are about to knock on death's door, are already partying with him because who the f*ck wants to be alive when sh*t outweighs the good. At least in the movie industry.
