Will Sasso is Curly in "The Three Stooges" MovieSubmit Comment
It's been rumored for some time, and now comes word that 20th Century Fox has officially cast Will Sasso ("MADtv") to play Curly in "The Three Stooges" movie, which will be directed by the Farrelly brothers (Dumb and Dumber).

Casting will be complete by the end of next week. At this point, Hank Azaria ("The Simpsons") has emerged as the frontrunner for the role of Moe, and James Marsden (X-Men) for the role of Larry.

The plan is to divide the PG-rated film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy.

It's a good choice, I guess. He's very good at parodying steven seagal.

Don't mind this cast, might actually work out.

the Farrelly brothers didn't make a good comedy in ages...

Hank azaria as moe...I thought he already have that role...oh wait, that's from the Simpsons

James marsden.....thats gotta be a joke, right?

@Mega - Marsden is the one I know least about.

Will Sasso... GREAT call. The guy is damn funny. And yes, his Seagal parodies are priceless.

Nice choices. Hopefully a good script will follow.

Going with non A-list is an interesting approach. Dude looks like Curly. Not sure if Marsden looks like Larry check out his comedic chops in Sex Drive. I still won't be rushing out to see remake, as really you just can't remake The Three Stooges.

Awesome, Sasso was one of the best parts of MadTV, this movie might actually be back on track. The rest of the cast is pretty great too, not sure about Marsden though, though he was pretty funny in Sex Drive

Come on, really? A 6 foot 3 inch Stooge? I like Will Sasso a lot, but NOT for the Three Stooges. And no offense to James Marsden, but the idea of him as Larry is beyond absurd.
Ranger writes:

@LaMac - I don't disagree. But Jackman made a fine Wolverine... and Wolvie is supposed to be what... 5' 1"?

New adaptions require bending the rules a bit.

well honestly out of all three Will Sasso is the only one who makes sense. The guy is funny as sh*t. As for Hank Azaria as moe, Sean Penn would have been better, and James Marsden wft.... But still good for Sasso, its about time he started to get the appreciation he deserves..

Sasso is great, but everything about this movie sounds like it is going to suck big time. Already don't want to see it.
minkowski writes:

Well, he *looks* a bit like curly, I suppose, even though originally Curly had a great deal of hair he shaved off to work with the stooges, and he gained weight, whereas I think this guy was born fat and bald, but I digress.

I just dunno, can he do the slapstick thing and still be likeable because Curly had a kindness and charm that made him funnier and more vulnerable to audiences, and that was one of his innate virtues.

Anyway, I see this this casting choice as the film's one decent aspect. And even then I'm not sure I'm sold.
LaMac writes:

@Ranger - I get that new versions of films or reworking of a story for film can change things a bit. But Wolverine is a fictional character and these were real people and the Farrelly brothers have always said that they wanted to make an actual Stooges film, with guys who were just like The Stooges, even unknowns. That makes me think the studio is interfering, because I don't think the Farrellys would go for all the people rumored when I know there are unknowns who can be Stooges.
minkowski writes:

Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Shemp Howard, Cury Howard, Joe Besser, all of them were real people, but they portrayed fictional characters, characters every bit as fake as Wolverine.

Moe went out his way in life to express the fact that he was nothing like his on-screen character. He was actually quite protective and loving of his brothers.

In short: this is NOT a biopic, dude, it's a film based on their film *shorts*.

Will Sasso is an inspired choice ..... but when I see his mug, I can't help and think of his skit as Kenny ...

" Hi! I'm Kenny Rogers and this is Jackass! "

Classic.
