"Child's Play" Remake To Shoot This Year

Posted: March 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"ChildSubmit Comment
There have been plans to remake "Child's Play" since 2007, but MGM and Universal Pictures couldn't come to an agreement since MGM owns the original film and Universal owns the sequels.

Now comes word that all the issues have been worked out and MGM will move forward with a remake that has already been written by Don Mancini, who also wrote all the previous "Chucky" films. Plus, Brad Dourif is returning to voice the title character.

Production is said to begin later this year and the movie has been described as more of a reboot, with a darker tone and less comedic elements.

"After having successfully mined the horror-comedy aspects of this concept over the course of 'Bride of Chucky' and 'Seed of Chucky,' the fans are really telling us that they want it to be scary again," Mancini previously said. "Doing the remake just provides us with a really good opportunity to [do that]."

I was going to say someething negative, but then I saw that Dourf and Mancini are both set to return, so scratch that, this could work, and even if it doesn't, can it really be any more of letdown than that Nightmare on Elm Street remake that failed to even have a coherent story, much less any scares?

A horror remake of a classic American made horror? With originals from the classic? And not Michael Bay exec producer credit? This remake might actually be kind of decent. Maybe.
Only horror remake I'm waiting for is Fright Night.

Thank god, there isn't enough horror movies about Clowns and Dolls.
Hopefully they don't f*ck it up. I want this to be dark and scary.

Why or why could'nt the NOES remake follow this lead and bring Englund back for that remake.

Good Point Number 1-

Plus, Brad Dourif is returning to voice the title character.

I am so happy about this. I have been waiting years for chucky to return as a vicious killer rather than a joke with a blade, even if it had to be on remake form.

Keeping Brad Dourif will ensure this project just remains the same old crap. They need to reconceptualize it if they want to get people interested. New voice, new doll, new respect for jokeless gorefests.
They should keep this one as violent and dry as the original Childs Play film.

^ agreed with pretty much everybody...especially about how this could be good if it's scary again and less of a comedic tone...same with what was said about nightmare on elm street remake with robert englund could have been better, but only if they brought wes craven back for it too...let us not forget, wes craven's new nightmare took us back to the original as well, and that was in the 90s, so watching that as a kid definitely was scarier than all the cgi crap you saw with the remake...i think wes craven should make a new sequel freddy movie with robert englund and blow the people who made the remake out of the water...well suck me sideways, i think i just figured it out, 'wes craven's new nightmare 2: freddy goes to hollywood' they could make it about freddy getting revenge on everybody involved with the remake, and the only way he can be stopped is if the original star who plays nancy returns, as well as her son(from wes craven's new nightmare) now grown up

the original childs play was plenty dark much like the original elm street its only with the sequels they turned him into gilbert gottfreid with a knife..

As many have said, as long as this doesn't suck like the Nightmare remake, then I'm all for it. The decisions so far seem to be on the right track.
