"The King's Speech" Director May Helm "Les Miserables" Next

After winning the Best Director Oscar for "The King's Speech," Tom Hooper has had many projects to choose from. Deadline is now reporting that he has decided to direct "Les Miserables," a musical adaptation of the Broadway hit.

Bill Nicholson has already written the script. The goal is to begin filming before the end of the year, somewhere in Europe. At this point, it is not clear if "Les Miserables" will be Hooper's next helming gig.

"Les Miserables" is based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo and is about the struggle of ex-con Jean Valjean to outrun his past and his relentless pursuer Javert.

Really don't see how they can top the Liam Neeson-Geoffrey Rush one.

Hooper wants more awards. Simple as that.

Remember going to see Les(is)Miserables at the Queens Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.

God it was boring, so i never bothered with the movie even with Rush and Neeson involved.

Rush and Neeson version was great. Find a fresh project, hell some shakespearean thing that never got the right treatment. What we don't need is remakes of perfectly good movies whose actors are still contemporary and relevant.

I don't think the film could get any less miserable

What ?

He's giving up Waiting for Godot or Faust for this ?

Les Miserables lives up to thee title. To quote a very impressive theader, Les Miserales makes its audience feel like "les miserables".
