"Dune" Movie is NOT HappeningPosted: March 23rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Paramount Pictures has been trying to bring another "Dune" movie to the big screen for the last four years. But now that the rights to the Frank Herbert sci-fi novel have lapsed, the studio decided no to renew the option.
"Paramount's option has expired and we couldn't reach an agreement," said Richard P. Rubinstein, who controls the rights to what is considered the biggest-selling sci-fi book ever. "I'm going to look at my options, and whether I wind up taking the script we developed in turnaround, or start over, I'm not sure yet."
At one point when Peter Berg (Hancock) was on board to direct, "Dune" seemed to be doing well. But then he dropped out to helm "Battleship." Pierre Morel (Taken) was brought on, and in collaboration with Chase Palmer, a script was put together. Rubinstein says that if he can find a financier to make the $100 million film, he will likely re-approach Morel and Palmer.

That's a shame, seemed like all the things were goign well for it.
Hope they at least try and sort something out.

I don't think they need to remake Dune, this is good news.

Fantastic, a movie is just not big enough to hold DUNE. The mini series was best.

They should just go ask David Lynch.
When he tells them to politely 'f*ck off', then they'll get it through their pin-headed, single amoeba brains that maybe some movies shouldn't be remade.

As much I adored the original and hell, even the TV mini-series, I really wouldn't have minded if they did a remake. With today's tech, it would have been visually impressive. Not that the first wasn't.
Keep the story intact and just update it like restoring a classic car.

Not a big fan of Star Wars for the Culinary Inclined. Pretty pedestrian sci-fi, and not really worth a second film, just to exploit modern CGI.
But I can assure you this is NOT dead. There's like six Herbert books in the series (really? why?), so expect film versions within the next fifteen years.

Give us Dune, a non moronic scy fy. enough of the movies that have a 20 cool state of the art special effect in them and 99 minutes of nothing. dune has a story, so i'd like to see it made, but i think that in this dumbification era of hollywood that story would be simplified into 1-2 sentences (for all six books).
