20th Century Fox Wants a Comedy Director for "Deadpool"

20th Century Fox Wants a Comedy Director for "Deadpool"Submit Comment
"Zombieland" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have apparently finished a draft of the "Deadpool" script. Just recently 20th Century Fox was getting serious about finding a director and getting the project in front of the cameras.

Ryan Reynolds, who played the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," was set to return with Robert Rodriguez in talks to direct. Eventually everything fell apart and Reynolds went on to other projects.

Now comes word from David Slade (30 Days of Night) that he was considering helming the film, but eventually decided to sign on for the studio's "Daredevil" reboot. He now revealed on his Twitter account that Fox is searching for comedy directors to tackle "Deadpool."

"Love DEADPOOL. [I] was never engaged in the (quite fantastic) script," he wrote. "Last I heard studio was looking at comedy directors. None of my business."

The director should be Tarantino, most of his films are have humour.

Rodriguez would be cool. I don't think it'll work without Reynolds though.

Edgar is Spaced/Shaun mode yes, Didn't really like Scott Pilgrim that much though (In Minority on here i know).

I'm just bored of superhero films already how many more and we gonna have to endure?
redbluedevil writes:

If Tarantino were to make a superhero film, this'd be it, but I really don't see him directing someone else's script.

Let's hope they find someone good...

will deadpool have any changes from the original comic book character ... like in wolverine the movie where he was MUTE merc with the mouth with no mouth (i was stunned so i didn't register it was a joke that stryker shut him up), not to mention teleportation, x-ray eyes and so on ...
Han Solo writes:

PLEASE NO KEVIN SMITH!
Also i think the best contenders for a film with the protagonist being a badass/comic-relief are:
Mathew Vaughn - KICKASS was DOPE!
Edgar Wright - Scott Pilgrim/HotFuzz/ShaunoftheDead were all awesome
Christopher Nolan - He can make anything good but that deadpool and him will ever cross paths

Brett Ratner if you want a quality film.
trailertrash writes:

Or a Treehouse made he's your man
minkowski writes:

Seems like FOX is going to bring to film any character, no matter how unpopular and unwanted, simply because they have the right to exercise that option, per their contract with Marvel, and that's going to f*ck things up no matter who they hire...

but OT...a comedy director? WOW. if they really want to do Deadpool comedically, which is a huge head-scratcher IMO, then get a COMEDIC writer you morons, and forget who does the directing...
Mudders writes:

j-man writes:

slades perfect for comedy, especially considering his last film was a joke
rabid writes:
on March 21st, 2011 at 10:00:23 PM

Why wouldn't they choose a comedy director?
Deadpool has always been the funniest comic on the shelves. Turning him into a tortured Wolverine knockoff kind of removes the appeal... or did we forget Wolverine Origins so quickly?

As big fan of deadpool...this isnt going to end well. Why does 20th century fox always have to ruin everything..I mean yea there is comedy in the story, but its mostly just action and him being a dorky badass...until fox can prove to me that deadpool will be just like the comic im on board, but until then f*ck you Fox f*ck you hard..
