"Mars Needs Moms" Kills "Yellow Submarine" Remake

"Mars Needs Moms" Kills "Yellow Submarine" RemakeSubmit Comment
Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forest Gump) has been working on the remake of the classic Beatles film "Yellow Submarine," but has been running into budget issues. Now that Zemeckis' "Mars Needs Moms" film bombed in theaters, Disney wants nothing to do with "Yellow Submarine" and considers the project dead.

Last year it was announced that Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell have been cast to play the members of Beatles. The plan was to use 16 Beatles songs in the film, which was to use cutting-edge motion-capture technology similar to Zemeckis' "Beowulf," "A Christmas Carol" and "Mars Needs Moms."

Zemeckis is now free to shop the movie to other studios, but word is that he will likely abandon the project and will instead direct a live-action film.

Finally!

I'm tired of uncanny valley cutting edge animation. I'd sh*t bricks if I was a kid and parents took me to watch Mars Needs Moms.

Live action, Rob.

@telur

Why not Contact II then?

"Contact II: Another contact"

Telur is everything I hate about the average audience member, and I bet he's from Europe, I thought he'd know better.

Lets make a cartoon about The Beatles biggest trip and the most drug fuelled album of all time.. the kids will love it!

lol this guy just keeps trying to make that horrible motion capture animation work. if at first you dont succeed, just stop doing it. please

im tired of the "oh this sh*tty movie didnt make any money, so were just gonna scrap this unrelated pile of crap just for sh*ts."
minkowski writes:

Why and when did Zemeckis make the mistake of throwing in with anination projects? Hes just terrible at them and he always get's the look wrong, like The Christmas Carol and The Polar Express.

He did fine when he worked with real actors but he has no talent for this sh*t. Either get back to films with real humans, Zemeckis, or just drop out altogether, or perhaps do the Spielberg thing and EP for the rest of your fat lazy life.

"Just make Back to the Future 4"

No, not that sh*t, please, but do expect a remake in about five years. That's what I predict anyway.

"Just goes to show you Hollywood morons that Motion Capture is crap."

Motion capture, when done right, looks excellent, and is very, very useful, I can assure you, especially when the captures are converted to keframes and painstakingingly polished by talented animators, but it seems whatever sh*t studio Zemeckis uses doesn't understand the word 'refinement'. Or talent.

More to the point, Yellow Submarine was a hagiographic fil made at a time of the Beatles height of popularity, but I don't see the appeal NOW, even though they're still one of the most prolific and popular and inpirational bands of all time, most people under a spcific age have little or no spiritual connectio to them or their works, just like most people don't get old Star Trek because it's a manifestation of a cultural exposition long passed and past.

In other words, the Beatles, still fairly relevant today, don't demand a following in the Golden Demographic, but moreso within the aging baby boomers, and I hate to think that Zemeckis believes he can should the Beatles down the throats of Gen Y'ers just because he grew up during the heyday of those Liverpool boys.

It just won't work, and he needs to either decide what's important: making the films he wants to make and failing along the way, or making the films cash-spending people want to see and suceeding along that way, because rarely can a man make a living masturbating.

"Mars needs Moms is a bad title and its in 3D

thank god that yellow submarine is not going ahead and a Big No to Back to the Future do not need another one at all, or forest gump or anything from the 80s or 90's. move on make something new with a better title.

@telur

But you'd have to strap Michael J Fox down with duct tape and nail gun him to a wheelchair to get a clear shot of him ....

otherwise, all you'd get would be this unintentional Paul Greengrass shooting.
Ranger writes:

How many people were in the band, The Beatles?

Answer: 3... and Ringo Starr.
