Summit Entertainment has acquired the rights to a NY Times article "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour" for "Ninja Assassin" writer Matthew Sand to adapt for the big screen.

The April 20th explosion of Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 men working on the platform and injured 17 others. The subsequent gusher wasn't capped until July. The story will focus on the courage of those who worked on the oil rig and the final minutes leading up to the disaster.

"This film will portray the great heroism that took place last year on the Deepwater Horizon rig and how colleagues so courageously came to each other's aide," said Summit. "This piece in The New York Times evoked the raw emotion these brave men experienced and endured throughout the tragedy that took place in April of last year and we hope to evoke the same emotions for our audience with this movie."

"we hope to evoke the same emotions for our audience with this movie."

Translation: We hope we can cash in on this sad and catastrophic event.

Heroes? They were working for an openly corrupt company known for cutting corners and assassinations. Your stapling your own balls to your chins.

Sad, yes, catastrophic no. The media deliberately played it up like it was the worst thing to have ever happened to anyone anywhere, and in reality, their coverage was as overblown as the well itself.

Let's just hope the film is as well-oiled as the events it depicts.

It can be sponsored by Duracell.

Seeing as how this all began because of a faulty battery.

I literally laughed at my screen for a few minutes, hilarious! Funniest statement I've read in a long time

"The final minutes leading up to the disaster." You mean when everything was seemingly fine. Yeah I'll pay good money to see a movie about how everything is okay. Wow. How exciting. And frankly the BP spill wouldn't make a great film. Safeguards weren;t in place. A fire started. The Coast Guard, under orders from the WH didn't follow protocol and allowed too much water to be sprayed in an effort to extinguish the blaze. The collecting water weighed down the rig and collapsed it. Nto exactly thrilling film moments here. How about when the Gulf governors wanted to build sandbars to protect beaches and were told no by the Feds? Exciting or what! It's a stupid film idea. Any studio hack who gives even a cent to this disastrous disaster film should have his balls removed via cheese grater.
