Disney's "The Runner" Sci-Fi Movie Sounds Familiar

Posted: March 9th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
DisneySubmit Comment
Walt Disney Pictures has acquired "The Runner," a pitch for a futuristic sci-fi film that will be written by Dave Andron ("Knight Rider") as a potential directing vehicle for Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace).

Plot: In the year 2027, Earth's surface has been rendered uninhabitable due to a devastating attack. A group of survivors living in the Rocky Mountains have discovered a way to send a man back in time. While the volunteer departs under the guise of trying to stop the devastating attack, he has an ulterior motive: to save the love of his life.

The pitch is being described as "original," but sounds very similar to "Terminator," "Twelve Monkeys" and even "Source Code," which has yet to hit theaters.

Disney is planning to develop "The Runner" not only for the big screen, but also for TV, video game, graphic novel and for interactive content for mobile devices.

You're not wrong there Alex.

Hey, at least they're putting the "effort" into coming up with "original" ideas, right? In this case, effort is futile. I'm sure the main character's going to be a skunk or a ball of yarn or something.

you think they are going to pump this through enough media devices? I don't think it's enough. better make a radio program for it too disney

I wonder if james cameron would be angry if someone recycles his terminator concept. That would be pretty ironic.

In a way it's not fair to combine a bunch of stories make it sound unoriginal. I mean yeah the story sounds like it has elements but you could say that about any film if you get enough stories. There are a lot more elements present in a film then just this. For all we know a pet wolf journey's with him something. Bad example but you get my point. This is just the basic plot, no specifics that might separate the film from others.

Like anyone will believe people living in the Rocky mountains have tootbrushes, much, much less time travel.

What, no comic strip and Cartoon Network adaptations?

So it's basically 12 Monkeys crossed with Quantum Leap, then.
