Sylvester Stallone May NOT Direct "The Expendables" Sequel

Sylvester Stallone May NOT Direct "The Expendables" SequelSubmit Comment
After "The Expendables" grossed $275 million globally, a sequel was immediately greenlit and is now scheduled to begin filming during the summer. And even though Sylvester Stallone is planning to return with the rest of the cast of the first film, LA Times has learned that he is planning to relinquish directing duties to someone else.

The script for the sequel has been written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys). Stallone, meanwhile, has been meeting with potential directors. There's currently no word on who could step in to replace him.

Regarding the story, Stallone previously said that he would like the sequel to focus on new characters and reduce the role of older ones. Bruce Willis will get a bigger role and Jean-Claude Van Damme will likely join the cast.

NoooooooooooooooooooooooooI hope thisis a rumor. The story is not that hard is a bunch of mercenairies fighting against each other and blowing sh*t up with machine guns and explosives. That's why the expendebla haters didn't apreciate this movie cause they like jerking off to Vin diesel and the c*ck aka Dwane Johnson.this isn't a tom clancy book or a michael crichton book with dialogue.

BTW van douche will be in this is been confirmed on youtube

Let michael bay directed so he can put shia on board.
Jonah hill since he likes to write screenplays.
The director of justin bieber hell have the expendables doing dance moves.
Bret ratner would put chris tucker and jackie chan since they're both his cash cows.
Judd apatow would work as well hell have seth rogen and his annoying wife being gangbanged by the xpendables.

I'd get whoever directed Tango and Cash to helm this sequel. That movie was awesome! Well maybe not awesome, but definitely better than the first Expendables.

C'mon guys, did the first installment really deserve all the props it got? I'm a big fan of the 80s action genre but this film barely took itself seriously. The acting was terrible, the fights were weak, and the biggest explosion was completely FAKE (just like the fake explosions at the end of Tango and Cash and Demolition Man). Another director and a more serious tone might be just what the sequel needs. Oh yeah, GET A BETTER f*ckING BAD GUY THIS TIME AROUND!!!

BTW, am I the only guy on here who thinks they should drop that midget Jet Li and replace him with someone vastly more talented k like Jackie Chan or Tony Jaa? Li was worthless in the first film!

WTF!!! Sly, if you wanna do it right, you gotta do it yourself. Don't hand it to another people.

dude jet li maybe like 5 feet tall but he can kick all of the expendables asses in seconds he is a wushu champion and a Tai Chi practioner. He has been practicing Kung fu before he was like 7 or 8 years old.
watch his early films like Shaolin temple,Kids from shaolin,Martial arts from shaolin,Dragon fight before he was using Wire FU
He is also skilled in many famous weapons like the spear, staff and sword JET this ones for you:

Li was undersused in the first movie but then again he'll beat the sh*t outta everybody and that wouldnt go because then the movie will be all about him.And the rest of the actors wouldnt get enough screen time.

Statham and Sly got the most screen time in the movie. But then again this was the first time all of the action stars were in all one movie. They can learn from the mistakes and make it better for the next movie.

THE expendables is story is not to be taken seriously is a simple plot:is a bunch of mercenaries taking down a South American dictator.Im just glad that Dolph,Austin, gary daniels,Eric Roberts got a role in the movie cause they all great

I hope that Stallone will step up and direct again.

He has a pretty good track record when directing sequels, He knows what the audience wants and he delivers that.

But if he was to relinquish directing duties, You can't go far wrong with,

Shane Black
Pierre Morel
Neil Marshall

For me i Would like to see Neil get a big budget Action film i think this guy would deliver a great action movie no doubt about it.

He can handle multiple lead characters and he has a good eye for action scene.

He is very influenced by those action/scfi films from the 70' and 80's.

@SAC - Bruce Willis is slated to be the bad guy in this one.

Bruce Willis is a pretty good start :0

SAC- Completely agree mate, people are scared to say they don't like that film on here because its a WP favourite but I couldn't even watch the whole film it was f*cking dog sh*t some of the dialog was retard level. I get that it was a homage to the 80s and some of the action was ok at best but the whole thing felt like a spoof rather than a homage. You can see al the thought processes in each scene where he's fighting him and wouldn't it be funny if he said this. The thing about the old action films that these people starred in was that they were good , i personally didnt think the expendables was at all.
trailertrash writes:

SAC-

You mean Andrey Konchalovskiy that guy has never been near an action film since Tango and Cash, Where he was fired and replaced by Albert Magnoli in favor of a lighter tone to the movie.

And that explosion at the end of Tango and Cash is truely terrible your right.
trailertrash writes:

As was Brion James (RIP) English accent
SACdaddy writes:

@Tailer: LOL!!! I had no idea that happened to the director. The lighter tone was terrible, and Sly is not the best with comedy :)

How about Tyler Perry? Reunite Chris Tucker with Bruce Willis, bring in Sam Jackson, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), and Queen Latifah as a Dyke/African Dictator reprise her Set It Off role.

@SAC - fair enough (re: this film barely took itself seriously. The acting was terrible, the fights were weak, and the biggest explosion was completely FAKE (just like the fake explosions at the end of Tango and Cash and Demolition Man)."

But as The Expendables was paying homage to the 80's genre of action films... everything you defined as being The Expendables film WAS 80's genre.

'...barely took itself seriously.' Barely?! It didn't take itself seriously at all. Getting the action start together was the goal, clearly not the storyline.

'The acting was terrible' --- ummm... ever see an 80's action film (excluding Rickman in DieHard) that didn't suck?

'...the fights were weak, and the biggest explosion was completely FAKE' --- yep, 80's action film genre in a nutshell.

I'd probably even watch the sequel if whiny bitch Kevin Smith directed it. As long as Sly is in it and keeps the start coming back.
Ranger writes:

The Terminator, Predator, Die Hard?
Ranger writes:

@Cinema - ALL GREAT movies (I like most have them in my collection). I'm sure you'd agree the acting was sub-par. Typical for the action genre. The action was fine. The acting sucked (DieHard had the best acting of the bunch).

It is. If he doesn't O.D. or have a heart attack before (or during) filming.
minkowski writes:

They're called action mives for a reason folks, and not because they sport the highest calibre acting.

And whoeveer directs will have Stallone's approval, so no worries, I think because I'm sure Rocky will step in if he feels the direction isn't going the way he wants, but the real question is whi's writing the story? Bigger deal than direction, IMO.

And yes, Tango and Cash was great. I loved it.
Ranger writes:

Writing is a bigger deal than directing... good point.
minkowski writes:
on March 9th, 2011 at 3:43:06 PM

Well, just noticed that the guys that wrote Space Cowboys wrote the sequel, so I'm not sure I should be worried, given that I haven't really seen that film and I have no intention of doing so, unless it's a lot better than it looks, which I doubt.

Should have got Shane Black to write the script. He could do it in a weekend.
trailertrash writes:

Cinema- LOL !! Nice job..

And i guess sarcasm is just lost on some folk.
trailertrash writes:
on March 9th, 2011 at 4:04:02 PM

Mink -

Now a Shane Black Expendables 2 Script would have been a perfect start.

But hey Ken Kaufman wrote Muppets in Space and Curious George so we are in good hands, right....?
trailertrash writes:

Ranger

Yes Sir even if fat boy Smith directed it, i will be first in line on opening day for sure.
