Mark Wahlberg Planning "The Fighter" SequelSubmit Comment
Mark Wahlberg stayed in boxing shape for four years with hopes of finally getting "The Fighter" off the ground. It eventually happened and went on to gross $107 million on a $25 million budget and just won Oscars for Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.

Speaking to Extra, Wahlberg revealed that it's time to start thinking about the sequel. "Now we're gonna talk about doing No. 2," he explained. "We're gonna do the Ward /Gatti trilogy and make it real."

The actor is referring to the real-life Mickey Ward's three fights with his most fierce opponent, Arturo Gatti.

Yeah, I hear it's about his acting career, and titled 'The Loser'.

Wahlberg is a walking set prop. Bale owned that film.

Amen Bale owned that film.

Dude I met the guy who played the step dad a week ago! Cool dude. His name is Jack McGee. Anyway it be interesting to see a true story trilogy. Definitely not a common thing. But nothing will ever beat the Rocky series which basically hashed Rocky Marciano with that no-name who knocked Ali down. Don't let the hype fool you. Marciano was the greatest, not Ali. Marciano literally never lost a fight and I heard he fought his last fight with a broken jaw. There's history for anyone who wants it.

Ali fought a fight with a broken jaw as well.

No, sorry dude, this just isn't going to work. I didn't realize who Wahlberg was playing until I got midway through the movie. Mickey Ward's character was totally whitewashed and sanitized. I don't want to see your crappy sequel.

JUST BECAUSE YOU HAD A GREAT MOVIE... DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD DESTROY IT WITH A SEQUEL... THIS AINT ROCKY

Bandolero

You're right he isnt a sly. Which is a good thing. Wahlberg is a much better actor.
Sleuth1989 writes:

@ Ranger
True, but Marciano still had the better record. Dude is the only one to go undefeated and he retired with the championship after having it for four years.

I would rather watch Sylvester Stallone milk a goat than watch Mark Wahlberg act. Nothing against the kid, just too full of himself. And it would be kinda cool to see how Stallone would milk a f*cking goat!

Great movie, somewhat typical, conventional, but still a great movie. Wahlbergs finest performance and movie for sure, I just don't see why he would want to do this. I see like 5% ambition with the whole true story trilogy thing, the other 95% is just pure feelings of unnecessity.

Ward/Gotti, all 3 fights were the top of the class

but in terms of making another film on it poses a couple problems

1) Leo will probably be out since Alice was a non factor over the 3 fights in public esp.

2) Bale won't go that skinny again.. but d*cky was a MAJOR part in the off the ring friendship between Gotti and Ward.

3) That means Wahlberg is gonna have to carry the film and he was the most forgettable about 'The Fighter'

Not gonna happen

what about 'the happening' sequel? How come he didn't get an oscar nom for his ground breaking performance in that masterpiece?
SquirrelFlyer writes:

@Rambo

cause it was just too mind numbingly SPECTACULAR

If Eminem were sane and willing to act, he would actually work pretty well as Mickey Ward.
