Will Smith in Talks for "Joe," a Biblical Story of JobPosted: March 1st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Will Smith is currently hard at work on the third "Men in Black" movie, but he is already planning to return to the big screen in a modern version of the Biblical tale of Job, a project that writer Paul Tamasy (The Fighter) just sold to Sony with plans of having "The Fighter" helmer David O. Russell directing.
"[Smith] will be playing Joe. The movie is called 'Joe,'" said Tamasy. "It's about a man [who is living] the American dream. He's got the nice house, white picket fence, great kids, great wife, nice cars. God and the devil get together every thousand years to bet on a man's life, and the fate of the world is at stake."
He continued: "What all of us get hit with in a lifetime, this man gets hit with in one week. And it's about whether or not he can still pick himself up from that and survive it. It's a dramedy. At its heart, it's a comedy — but it's got, obviously, a real dramatic core to it."
In the Bible, Job is described as a blessed man who lives righteously. Satan challenges Job's integrity, proposing to God that Job serves him simply because God protects him. God removes Job's protection, allowing Satan to take his wealth, his children, and his physical health in order to tempt Job to curse God. Despite his difficult circumstances, he does not curse God, but rather curses the day of his birth. And although he protests his plight and pleads for an explanation, he stops short of accusing God of injustice.

Sounds like you've just given the whole plot away there, don't worry no one was planning on watching it anyway. Let me guess Morgan Freeman will be typecast as God and Nicholas Cage will be a cocaine fuelled devil.

Will Smith is losing his cool. He now accociates with a 17 year old kid who sounds like a Cat being injected with heroin, and starring in very unorthadox films. Just give up now.

I can totally see this work. Will lives his happy life, when his family dies and he loose his job. This will be sad, but soon hilarity will ensue, as Will will be tormented with all kind of stuff. He will take all this with good spirit and everyone will learn a valuable lesson in the end. It will be Joe Dirt meets Bruce Allmighty.

I don't care what anyone says the guy is still a solid actor. He has pulled off some roles that on paper seem like a total flop.

Lol, just another case of lazy ass Hwood repeating itself. The Coen Bros. already made this film. It was called A Serious Man and was just nominated for several Academy Awards a couple of years ago. No way Hwood could top that film with Will Smith and without the Jew humor.

God's a lie and the Bible sucks. Those OT Jews were really barabaric, especially when they wasted an entire village of Amalekites, woman and children included, but to be on topic, this sounds like some silly rip of Bruce Almighty, and as much as I like Will Smith, despite his family and some of his dubious roles, I'll probably end up seeing this for whatever reason that currently eludes me.

Make Bad Boys III, Will.
With shootouts and explosions, racist remarks and vehicular mayhem.
Oh, and Martin Lawrence. He needs this more than Hathaway needs a spanking.

Debate? On here? Yeah, right. You're more likely to get caviar and fillet mignon in a soup kitchen.

@Encore
Looking back that comment was a bit regrettable. But I have no interest in getting into a religious debate with anyone or starting one for that matter. Let's just stick to criticizing this lame decision by Will Smith.
