"The Avengers" to Only Cost $40 Million?

"The Avengers" to Only Cost $40 Million?Submit Comment
Ohio Governor John Kasich told ThePlainDealer that Marvel will be shooting "The Avengers" in Cleveland, and added that the film has only a $40 million budget.

Here is the exact quote from the paper: "Ohio Gov. John Kasich said he has been in talks with city officials to bring shooting of a $40 million Marvel/Disney superhero movie to Cleveland."

Some believe that the $40 million is just the Cleveland budget, but others are pointing to Marvel's cost-cutting measures which actors have been complaining about. Is it possible that "The Avengers" may end up costing half the price of Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It" comedy?

I'm saying "No," and would be surprised if "The Avengers" didn't have a budget north of $150 million. Stay tuned.

In related news, Mark Ruffalo recently said that the movie will have equal parts Hulk and Bruce Banner, adding that he will be "introduced in a really great way." Ruffalo has already seen what The Hulk will look like, and said that the monster will definitely have his facial features.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner revealed that he has already read the script, but has yet to see the Hawkeye costume. He added that he may have a cameo in "Thor," but not in costume.

Well that was a waste of a headline.

They now have a better chance of earning some of the budget back, at least.

I wish they would only pay 40m for sh*tty comic book movies.

So this figure is excluding Downey's pay-day or is he taking a percentage, thus it wouldn't be counted in this figure? I'll suspect the latter.

You know half of that is set so that Stan " I use a rubber when I f*ck the new interns at Marvel " Lee can have is f*cking cameo, schilling like a hooker trying to make money for cab fare.

What do you call it when Stan Lee gets rectally f*cked in a bus men's restroom ?

Points in the back end.

Seeing how f*cking cheap Marvel is going, we might wind up with marionettes instead of CGI ... come the f*ck on!

Disney owns Marvel ... spend the f*cking money, you cheap f*cking bastards!

Funny, but... c'mon, even with a $200million+ budget, this flick has the potential to become one of the biggest cash cows in cinema history. Whether it sucks or not.

Obviously, they're going to spend 40mil. in Ohio shotings only.
Zeroguy writes:

Agreed. Waste of a headline. And my time.
But if the rumor is true, then give Joss $40 million for a Serenity sequel.
minkowski writes:

The headline is a waste in more than one way...technically, it should read: "The Avengers" to Cost Only $40 Million?".

It often makes a huge difference in where the 'only' gets placed within a sentence.

Not like anyone gives a sh*t.
KaloVisor writes:

maybe, they left a 0 out and it's $400 Million :P

No, Seriously there's no way this film could only cost $40 Million dollars. that's over $100 Million less then "Thor" Costs to make, and this should be twice (if not three-times) as big.
JohnZee writes:

That's ridiculous, as cheap as Marvel is they aren't going to try to keep the total budget of the Avengers movie to $40 million. Maybe the Ant-Man movie, but certainly not a movie that includes characters that have had multiple movies based upon them that were over triple that budget. Me thinks that someone in Cleveland has gotten hold of some bad Ohio ditch weed...
technoreaper writes:

It's obviously how much the movie is spending in Cleveland. This relates to film incentives and tax credits. That's all the governor cares about.

I mean, seriously, do you really think this film could only cost $40 million? My god, use your brain...
DeVries writes:

Misleading title. Bying the Cleveland city would cost only 40M$. That's it.
biniwoo writes:

It's not the Avengers. I can tell you it's The Ant-Man
Rambo writes:

with this kind of budget Uwe Boll can make 20 world war 2 movies...
osamp writes:

Maybe its $40 million for the casting budget alone. RDJ does not come cheap.
RELAYER writes:

Does anybody actually believe that Governor John Kasich knows what he's talking about?

First of all... he's a politician,
Secondly... he used to be a journalist on FOXNews.

He's a moron who didn't bother to do any fact checking.
