Matthew Vaughn's Next is "Golden Age," Retired Superheroes Film

Matthew Vaughn revealed that he is looking to follow up "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class" with another superhero movie, called "The Golden Age," about a retirement home where superheroes end up.

It's based on the yet-to-be-published comic book written by British TV talk show host Jonathan Ross. Vaughn wants to get actors attached to the new project before the script is written. His wish list is Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty to play the retired superheroes who help out their grandchildren when their middle-aged parents screw up the world.

Vaughn pointed at "The Expendables" and "Red" to show that audiences are not against older action heroes. "You have these great star names and they're mainly playing supporting roles now," he said. "I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun."

Last year, BleedingCool took a photo of a teaser image from Ross' "Golden Age" comic book that was hanging at Birmingham International Comic Show 2010. Check it out below.

No thanks. Been there, done that with Space Cowboys and Wild Hogs.

"Vaughn pointed at "The Expendables" and "Red" to show that audiences are not against older action heroes."

Yeah, but unlike Nicholson and Eastwood, Stallone and Willis don't need a plastic tie to keep their bowels from hitting the floor.

@minkowski

Not to mention "Kingdom Come", the DC comic about the end of the DC Universe.

Jonathan Ross may want to make damn sure he isn't copying any of the storylines of Kingdom Come, or lawsuits are going to entangle the story for years.

Damn WP.

Johnathon Ross, Alex Ross, I'm already confused. But damn Alex can draw like a mother f*cker. I suggest to anyone interested in drawing like me, grab the man's book which showcases his line art. Awesome!

But you are very right, Maus, there's some issue to resolve there, as it looks like someone perhaps lifted from Ross' creation.

Im good with it as long as they stunt double and cgi the piss out of it. Because...Im sorry but, d*ck Van Dyke doing that torpedo roundhouse on Ben Stiller in Night at the Museum was pretty badass.

Ari Gold writes:

f*ck yeah Jack Nicholson would be pimp in this. Is Christopher Walken old enough? Throw him in there too.
Electro Rock writes:

Walken could torpedo roundhouse Stiller for real.

Since when the hell were beatty and nicholson action stars?no thanks beatty you made a political movie called bulworth as ur last film about a white guy acting black shame on you,you just tried to be hip cause hiphop was gaining popularity. You and kenny rogers from trying to do duet with rappers makes both of u look like real asses.

Nicholson is so damn out of shape these days you get the same old cranky old f*ck character outta him in his last movies.

Jonathan Woss Really !!!

Well i guess as Mrs Ross Wrote the screenplays for Kickass and Xmen 1st Class Jonathan was feeling a little left out at home.

Will he be dying his hair bright red next....

Cinemaisdead writes:

Trailer- I think Alex could have mentioned that Jonathan Ross is Jane Goldmans husband the writer of Kick Ass. I'm sure a lot of americans dont even know who Wossy is.

Vaughn needs to change the record on the super hero movies any way and try something else... perhaps porn.

I'd like to see Eastwood again, but didn't he say Gran Torino was his last starring film? If so, that film was a perfect departure, so why screw it up?

DaveThePhotoGuy writes:

Well about twentie years ago I did find him funny but as I have gotten older I just feel that he uses snide comments and rude innuendo to be funny, I like some of that kind of stuff but there is an art to it and well...I guess he missed the day they were teaching how to do it right.
