Robin Confirmed for "The Dark Knight Rises"?

Robin Confirmed for "The Dark Knight Rises"?Submit Comment
Michigan's WILX News is reporting that Christopher Nolan was scouting locations in Grand Ledge's Fitzgerald Park last week for "The Dark Knight Rises."

Grand Ledge officials revealed that crew members were looking at the water treatment plant inside the park that is being considered as the location of Robin's hideout.

This news is a bit surprising, considering that Christian Bale previously stated that he would leave the franchise if Robin were to ever appear in these Batman films. But Nolan has a way of selling his ideas, and the rumored storyline may need Robin if Bane (Tom Hardy) ends up breaking Batman's back.

And since Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) has recently been cast, many are now assuming he may be the next Robin.

Meanwhile, Batman-On-Film claims that WILX has their facts wrong and that no version of Robin will appear in the film.

You know in Nolan's hands, the Robin lore would be handled well. I'm sure he'll stay away from the young protege Bats takes under his errr wing...
I think a good take on it would be a young vigilante following in Batman's steps all on his own. Batman would normally discourage it but sees how good the kid is and realizes the kid (Levitt) has potential. None of that trapeze family bs though.

I still it's going to be a take off from the Knightfall comic's. Bane breaks the Bat, Azrael takes over, goes nuts, and then the Batman comes back to save the day..Or better yet. the dark knight rises.
rabid writes:

I could see it done without Azrael. Bane shatters Batman's spine and he must return to the League to be healed in a Lazarus pit and learn more training to defeat Bane.

"Robin Confirmed for "The Dark Knight Rises"?"

Really? Some no-name news station says that some no-name person at some no-name location says Nolan is looking to put Robin in the film, and this is 'confirmation'?

Well, hey, I say that my grandmother says that some pimp she knows told her that he heard from from a falafal vendor that Nolan is looking at using Main and First Street as
Batman's whorehouse, so there. Confirmation.

rabid writes:

Nolan responded yesterday. No Levitt. No Robin/d*ck Grayson/Nightwing/Damien Wayne/Jason Todd.
according to the director.
He could be lying.
minkowski writes:
on February 6th, 2011 at 3:28:28 PM

You can't have Nightwing without having Robin first, so no Robin logically implies no Nightwing.

And thank god, I guess, although I think including Robin is actually NOT a bad idea, as I can see Batman taking under his wing a little street urchin criminal and turning him into something of a sidekick.

The only real problem would be, IMO, how to tone down the ridiculous colorisations used in Robins costume. Way too garish and too heaviy contrasts with the much darker film tones.

But I do think it could work, but I wonder if Nolan refuses to include him because of the character's inherent silliness, because of Schumacher's preposterous characterisation, including that loaf and lout Chris O'Donnell, who was WAY too old to be Robin, or because Nolan feels Robin arrives too late in the standard mythology to include him in his story arc.

Nolan's clarification would be much appreciated.
minkowski writes:
on February 6th, 2011 at 3:44:41 PM

For Robin, just drop the yellow color for a light grey, and make the bright red much darker and more drab, like a dirty maroon.

Make the kid a smartmouthed cigarette smoking punk with mussed up hair and a dark attitude.

The costume could look a little like a double breasted suit (waist up of course), a bit like the Joker's typical attire.

Hell, get away from the gay and Robin could be a damned cool character in his own right.
bspence writes:
on February 6th, 2011 at 3:49:06 PM

im telling you. Levitt is playing either The Joker or The Riddler (if its main cast and someone besides a lawman). According to Nolan he has stated neither The Joker or Riddler will appear, so my guess is since they already have Bane, Catwoman, and possibly Hugo Strange that he'll play Edward Nigma and just not become the riddler. but then hes set up for Batman 4.
bspence writes:
on February 6th, 2011 at 3:50:29 PM

or he could always play Holiday. but im really beginning to realize similar to The Riddler and Talia al Ghul that its just wishful thinking by this point.

technoreaper writes:

This should have been a movie about Two-Face. I had assumed The Dark Knight movie was just giving the character a background setup for the third movie. The inclusion of Catwoman...and Bane, god knows Robin, might be proof Nolan has been a hack all along. Inception seemed to dull his luster a bit. I mean, without Heath Ledger's knockout performance in Dark Knight, would anyone have cared?
JaCKsWaS7eDL1Fe writes:
on February 6th, 2011 at 4:20:25 PM

For gods sake, there won't be a Robin. I can tell you right now that JGL will be one of three things.

1- He his heavily involved in the movie, and is actually Azrael, who takes over for Batman when bane breaks his back...which i am fairly certain will happen.

2- Could be prepping the riddler for a fourth film, especially possible because Bale and Nolan seem to be backtracking on the this is the final Batman thing

3- Could be Hush, possibly prepped for next movie.
minkowski writes:
on February 6th, 2011 at 4:20:47 PM

Again, and I have said this all along, had Heath NOT died, he wouldn't have received such a glowing reception for his portrayal, which for me wasn't the epitome or proper embodiment of the Joker, a character born, bred and alive only when confined to the mythical pages of comics, a character who invariably loses much when translated from that world to a more plausible reality.

Had Burton laid off the camp, his Joker would be the best proper rendition to date.

I mean, as far as crazy killers go, Bale gave a more anguished and nuanced performance in American Psycho, yet received hardly half the acclaim, if even that much.

As for Two-Face, I don't care. He's rarely an interesting character, just a two-bit player in the Gotham City peanut gallery. His supposely schizoid personality wasn't explored in TDK, and is rarely explored to any great depth in the comics.

Because of this, his character often lacks any depth, aside from the scheming disfigured psycho antics you wold otherwise expect.

And I've always felt that No Country for Old Men's Anton Chigurh really ripped off Two-Faces coin-flipping by-chance approach to murder, but then they both share a long and deeply rooted history in gangster mob histrionics.
Ted Mosby writes:

http://batman-news.com/2011/02/05/the-dark-knight-rises-to-include-robin-dont-count-on-it/

And Bale said he didn't want Robin in Batman three years ago. A lot can change. Nolan could have sold him on the idea, and even if Robin appears, which is doubtful, what's Bale going to do? Give up his meal ticket? Batman is his best gig right now.

But for now, I'll wager this is just a worthess rumor.

I thought you were describing Justina Bellend (Justin Beiber) as Robin for a second.
Johnny Neat writes:
on February 7th, 2011 at 2:15:21 PM

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robin could be ingenious. I felt he could pull off a decent Riddler and or a Joker replacement if need be. I'm still against Bane as I felt Tom Hardy could pull off Hugo Strange who should be the main villain.
Rookie One writes:
on February 8th, 2011 at 9:47:09 PM

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is way too young to play Hush (Thomas Elliot). So that's out of the question. Possible as The Riddler or as Ed Nigma, but it won't be a set up for a fourth or fifth installment because there isn't going to be a fourth or fifth Dark Night. (at least not any with Christian Bale or Christopher Nolan) Robin is highly unlikely and the the source is even more unreliable. Unless the film is going to be six hours long I wouldn't count on an Azreal story line. Here is my guess... Bane escapes, breaks Batman's back. Gotham writhes in turmoil while Al Ghul brings him back to health (without the use of the Lazurus Pit)and re-trains him to defeat Bane... which he does without the help of Robin, Azreal or Talia Al Ghul.In the mean time Selina Kyle does her best Batman impression and either ends up dead or being saved by Batman. Super nerds will be be bothered by it until they see that the less-than-canon version makes for a better film. I hate to say it but this will probably go down as the worst of a great trilogy, like "Temple of Doom" or "A New Hope" <-- Opinion.
Rookie One writes:
on February 8th, 2011 at 9:53:33 PM

DODSON - You are absolutely right. Red Hood is much better than the Dark Night. Furthermore... the best Joker of al time is Mark Hamill and not Heath Ledger. No live action rendering of Batman can compete with its animated counterpart.
Rookie One writes:
on February 8th, 2011 at 10:06:39 PM

BSPENCE - I really doubt Levitt will play Holiday since Gilda and Harvey Dent were both "Holiday".
Rookie One writes:
on February 8th, 2011 at 10:11:13 PM

^ He could theoretically play Alberto Falcone who falsly confesses to the Holiday murders. however, this would completley contradict the bullsh*t Two Face storyline laid out in The Dark Night. It was still a sick ass film though.
