Stephen King's "Pet Sematary" is Moving Forward

Back in March 2010, it was revealed that Paramount Pictures hired Matthew Greenberg (1408, Reign of Fire, Halloween: H20, Mimic) to write a new version of Stephen King's "Pet Sematary."

LA Times is now reporting that Greenberg is set to turn in his script soon and the studio is already looking for a high-level director to take on the material. The project is just the latest of many King films in the works, including "The Dark Tower," "The Stand" and "It."

Published in 1983, "Pet Sematary" centered on a family that trades the city life for the country life in Maine, then discovers that they have moved near a pet cemetery that rests on an ancient burial ground. When the husband's toddler son is killed in an auto accident, the father takes the boy's body to the cemetery, where it is resurrected in demonic form.

Didn't writer of "It" was set to write this, but declined because studio was pushing forward PG13 version?

That Zelda chick is scary as sh*t. I'd be more enthused though if King was adapting the screenplay himself.

Really like the original, don't have a lot of time for this remake.

Hollywood's history of late remaking good horror films from the 80's is not good and i don't see this bucking that trend.

Pet Sematary is fine the way it is... Reboot IT already.

The original is one of the scariest films around. The freakiest scene doesn't even involve anything supernatural... just an anorexic actress squealing and moaning as she dies of meningitis.

Is that what Pet Sematary is about , and here i thought we were talking about a different one captian obvious ... (sarcasm )

@ Alex , this is a movie site , correct ? I am sure everyone has seen and or read Pet Sematary that posts on here .

Thanks for playing .

holy crap, you're right!

Book and movie were fine. Sequel, not so great. Remake? Bad f*cking idea.

"Pet Sematary is fine the way it is... Reboot IT already."

The extant only version is the made-for-TV garbage which does the book no goddamned justice. We need a 3 hour Frank Darabont scare-a-thon. A 90 minute Hooper-farce just won't do it.

i liked the original Pet Sementary, so not really sure why it is being rebooted (its not like it was an 80's slasher film series).

The Walken movie where he could read the history of things, errr- "The Dead Zone" was fairly recently rebooted into a semi successful tv series. I'm suspicious, there may be a trend forming here...

As much as i hate coming on this site and reading about which horror movie hollywood want to reboot next, i do admit, IT is on my list that i want to see.
Tim Curry did a f*ckin amazing job, but imo i thought it dragged a fair bit and still didn't get everything in.

Unfortunately, my hopes aren't high because of the bullsh*t being passed off as 'talent' these days.

"IT reboot has been casted! Zac 'Aids' Effron, Lindsay Whorebag and The Fat-Black Chick from Glee as Pennywise!"
