Universal Pictures is currently working on "Snow White and the Huntsman," which has Michael Fassbender, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron attached. Meanwhile, Relativity Media is racing to put their own "Snow White" movie together with Julia Roberts and director Tarsem Singh (The Cell).

On top of that, Disney also has their own "Snow White" film, called "Snow and the Seven," and is now in negotiations with "Toy Story 3" writer Michael Arndt to pen the script. The studio has also just brought on Oscar-winning production designer Johny Myhre (Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean) to begin creating the world of the new movie, which is set in 19th century China.

"Snow," which Disney has been developing since 2002, centers on a 19th century Englishwoman who returns to her Hong Kong home for her father's funeral, only to discover that her stepmother is plotting against her. She escapes to mainland China, finding solace among a rogue band of seven international warriors.

Natalie Portman has been attached to star, while Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) has been in talks to direct.

There's an epic poem along the line of this plot that I read in Russian Lit. I don't recall the name. Sounds very similar though.

Used to have a nice, elegant hardbound edition of Russian poetry, red and gilded, and having skimmed some of it, all I can say is that it read like Robert Frost as vocalized by a drunk miner.

Perhaps Russian poetry doesn't translate well, but then just as likely it simply sucks.

Czeslaw Milosz isn't much better BTW.

Russian Literature is bleak and tortuous. I have almost no appreciation of Russian writing before the 50's, but it gets better after world war 2.
I only took the class because I was chasing this girl who was obsessed with Pushkin.

come to think of it, it was Pushkin.
