Summit Entertainment has just acquired the rights to "This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein," a prequel novel to Mary Shelley's original "Frankenstein" novel that's set to be released later this year. The new book is written by Kenneth Oppel and is described as:

Victor and Konrad are the twin brothers Frankenstein. They are nearly inseparable. Growing up, their lives are filled with imaginary adventures... until the day their adventures turn all too real.

They stumble upon The Dark Library, and secret books of alchemy and ancient remedies are discovered. Father forbids that they ever enter the room again, but this only piques Victor's curiosity more. When Konrad falls gravely ill, Victor is not satisfied with the various doctors his parents have called in to help. He is drawn back to The Dark Library where he uncovers an ancient formula for the Elixir of Life. Elizabeth, Henry, and Victor immediately set out to find assistance in a man who was once known for his alchemical works to help create the formula.

Determination and the unthinkable outcome of losing his brother spur Victor on in the quest for the three ingredients that will save Konrad's life. After scaling the highest trees in the Strumwald, diving into the deepest lake caves, and sacrificing one's own body part, the three fearless friends risk their lives to save another.

This sounds horrible, it sounds like he's going to be a pale sparkly emo p*ssy kid that joins hid friends in circle jerk...what ever happened to originality

Sounds heavy to me.
Konrad doesn't show up in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, but the tale of Dr. Frankenstein might be based in the legends of Konrad Dipple, an alchemist that dabbled with corpses.
This could lie somewhere between fact and fiction and give a little nod to the hidden history. That sounds original enough for me.

there's not much difference if they're dead.

A gangbang follows.

Hilarity ensues.

@Cinemaisdead

I'm waiting to see how my pool bet plays out on this whole Egypt regime vs non-violent protest thing.

The bookie is padding the spread and f*cking up my chances.

Awesome. When Mubarak is overthrown, are you going to start a second pool to bet on how long Israel lasts?

Rabid, I think its fair to say that the connection between Dipple and Frankenstein is a new one (1975) and has been spread ostly through the comic book route.

Johann Conrad Dipple's connection to Frankenstein is conjecture at best, AFAIK, but regardless, I agree that this could be an interesting ilm. Still, I'm at odd's with the exploitaion of every prequel/sequel book for the benefit of a hack Hollywood.

"Awesome. When Mubarak is overthrown, are you going to start a second pool to bet on how long Israel lasts?"

A long, lonmg time is my bet. The nukes they have will assure that, and the nukes we have are an even better bet.
rabid writes:

They mentioned Dipple in a History Channel doc*mentary on the Shelleys. They've gone and made a tourist trap out of the Dipple castle for boaters-down-the-Rhine.

The Israel thing was a joke. The US would start WW3 before we'd ever let anything happen to our retarded little brother-country.

"The US would start WW3 before we'd ever let anything happen to our retarded little brother-country."

Well, someone has to defend the Canadians. They can't do it themselves.

That...doesn't surprise me. Crass commercial exploitation of history is no longer an American expertise.

They keep f*cking up Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy and the Wolfman ... what's up ?

Is the Creature of the Black Lagoon busy, or something ?

Really, it's like the Rob Schneider of the Universal Monsters.

@rabid

So, you're comparing the nation of Isreal to the down-syndrome character of Corky from "Life Goes On" ?

f*ck, I think it's more like Tracey Gold, scrambling off cocaine and looking for a KFC chicken bowl (while drooling over it).

Or driving, after having a 12 pack of Stroh's, a bus full of kids on a field trip, down the main highway and swerving just right.
darkraven28 writes:

Because every f*cking thing needs a prequel. What's next? A prequel to Oliver Stone's W. movie that shows the prick's day of conception? In a TRUCK??
