Stephen King's "The Stand" Movie Being Developed

Now that Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series is being adapted for the big screen, Warner Bros and CBS Films have decided to adapt King's "The Stand" novel.

Both studios will sit down with writers and directors in the coming weeks in an attempt to find the right take on the material. One thing to be determined is whether to attempt the adaptation in one or multiple movies. King will be involved in some capacity.

"The Stand" is a story of good vs evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters (such as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping story lines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

Cool, less of the preachy god stuff and more of the cool plague please.

Yeah, the preachy-ness took over at the end. I don't know how the book is, but focus on the plague and just keep the mystery.

Change the ending of the book, where main characters literally do NOTHING and I'm in.

I always loved the first part of the book, with whole outbrake, panic etc. and the part when the people struggle to maintain some form of society.

But this was done well in the miniseries. If they want a movie- they need to change a lot from the book.

And bring Frank Darabont. Not Mick Garris.

@ sc - Frank Darabont would be nice! needs someone like him

Since it's WB, I hope they cast the same person to play Flagg/Man in Black in both The Dark Tower and The Stand.

I know he was contender for Roland, and he's a bit too young, but Timothy Olyphant might be an interesting choice. Any other casting suggestions?

Read the book a long time ago, I liked it, but it's hard to imagine it as a movie. Maybe in different parts it could work.

i say it again stephen king can NOT finish a book, tahts why he just bring ins religion because they're good at making excuses for things adn justifying it as an answer... jesus was a f*cking psychotic halucinating paedophile and thats my oppinion and if any of you god fearing f*ckers want to argue with that go sh*t on a bible

@Cinemaisdead- Amen to both counts, bud! Maybe those religiophiles can pray for an edit button on this site. Looks like that would be as effective at this point.

Fock You Stephen Queen.

A reboot to a mini-series. Fock it, the Mini-series from what I remember, it was decent and entertaining, go and see it, no need to f*cking make it again. Fock you again, Stephen Queen.

Um, no, that was Mohammed. Seriously.

Eh. The Stand sucked marbles. Many, many moons ago, I tried reading it. Got half way through before I chucked the 3000 page six hundred pound behemoth. It kept flashing back to the blind black woman in Kansas or where ever, and the main crew of guys did a whole lot of nothing. Randall Flagg was jerking off and a bomb exploded. The end.

Look, if you want a successful King film, kidnap Darabont and force him to write and direct a big-budget film rendition of IT. That's a book worth making into a film. Lots of action and mystery and other assorted good sh*t.

Just delete the scene where Bev bonks all the kids. That's just unncessary, Stephen King. What the f*ck is your problem, btw? Jesus.

Maybe Steven King wrote the bible mink that would explain a lot

I don't understand (no pun intended) why there would be a The Stand movie, when they had a The Stand series on TV years ago.

Oh.

I forgot, it's Hollywood.

there is a lot of plague stuff already in a GREAT movie. you can't just say change the story to make the movie more pleasing to mass society by changing the ending, or anything else.Stephen King is brilliant and if we need any proof that *changing* the story is a bad idea, take a look at *IT* which SK actually hated. The story is fantastic, leave it alone!
