Mark Ruffalo is NOT the Hulk in "The Avengers?

Mark Ruffalo is NOT the Hulk in "The Avengers?Submit Comment
Back in September, Mark Ruffalo revealed that he will be playing both Bruce Banner and the Hulk in "The Avengers," which wasn't done by either Eric Bana or Edward Norton.

"I'm really excited. No one's ever played the Hulk exactly, they've always done CGI," said Ruffalo. "They're going to do the 'Avatar' stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I'll actually play the Hulk. That'll be fun."

Apparently director Joss Whedon changed his mind about Ruffalo playing the Hulk, because actor/stuntman Brandon Molale just posted a message on his Twitter account, stating: "Just auditioned to play the Hulk (motion capture) in the new 'Avengers' movie. Pretty damn cool job!"

Is it possible that the motion-capture scenes get so intense for Ruffalo that a stuntman had to be brought in? Stay tuned.

Edward Norton did play the Hulk. In fact he and the guy who played the Abomination were both in the green suits for the climatic fight scene. I remember seeing it from a behind the scenes video.

Did not like any of the Hulks

Wish they would spend more time on Superman and Batman movies than this

Crazyhorse what the f*ck does Marvel's doings have to do with DC characters?

Well, duh! Of course he is not playing the hulk! He portrays Bruce Banner. The only person I know to really playing as The Hulk Is Lou Ferrigno.

it's probably just a stunt scene where Banner gets tossed like a rag doll and emerges from the rubble as the green goliath. Hulk doesn't need stunt men... but Banner does.

The difference between the motion capture used by Norton and the motion apture used here, is that the programs can extrapolate Ruffalo's movements into a cg rendering on the spot. So the director can actually see the Hulk in the frame as he shoots. The computer is creating him inside a virtual space with pre-rendered skins, similar to how one plays a video game. With Norton, they were animating only a wire frame which was finely-detailed later in production.

@boo - funny you mention Lou Ferrigno. I just thought of him today... as a perfect fit in The Expendables 2!

Im talking about hollywood wanting to continue with this character

I wish they would do the hulk like they did with Ferrigno and not the computer crap

@Rabid, oh so they're pretty much using Avatar style technology? Before it came out I watched an HBO special and they were showing filming and it looked exactly like what you were talking about.
jdl107 writes:

Also... was this confirmed or something? Where did you hear about the filming style they chose for the Hulk?
rabid writes:

Yeah, that's why the Avatar motion-capture is so highly regarded. It gives the director more control that was previously in the hands of the fx artists. After Ruffalo gave ^this interview^ a few months ago, ComicBookMovies had an article explaining the way they'd be animating Hulk.

What, why not? Oh yeah because he's not a body builder. Come on, let's be realistic, Mark Ruffalo is in pretty good shape, but no Bruce Banner actor has ever been in good enough shape to be the actual Hulk.
jdl107 writes:

Ah, for an effects-heavy film that sounds like it would be a perfect way to capture the director's true vision.

I swear, that technology is just crazy.
HideousSecretion writes:

Whether he can or can't do the stunts is immaterial. The insurance on him doing his own stunts is going to be sky high. Even on a sound stage with lots of precautions. It's all going into a computer to be animated anyway so why have Ruffalo do it? Get a pro to do it.
