Director Simon West Planning "Con Air" SequelSubmit Comment
Director Simon West is currently promoting his "The Mechanic" film and CraveOnline caught up with him to find out if there has been any progress on the sequel to "Con Air."

"I'd like to do 'Con Air 2'," he said. "It'd be great. It's a matter of getting everybody together. There's so many people involved and it's about getting everybody to agree. But I'm going to bring it up to Nic [Cage]. I'm going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we'll go after the others."

The original 1997 film cost $75 million to make and it went on to gross $224 million in worldwide ticket sales. It was also nominated for two Oscars, including Best Original Song and Best Sound.

Does he even have to ask Cage?

I loved Con Air, its one of my all time favorites. But i just dont see them making a good sequel. Its a stand alone film and should be kept that way. That means no f*cking stupid remake/sequel/prequel, or reboot! Im talking to you hollywood!

Director Simon West Planning "Con Air" Sequel

Why ? So Cage can get a f*cking decent wig ?

Watch Nicolas Cage do a southern accent is like watching Corkey from "Life Goes On:" doing Hamlet on an Off-Broadway production of "Hamlet : The Oedipus Years" ... You don't WANT to laugh, you just do.

@Lowryder

Knowing Cage's financial wizardry (seriously, he would spend money on the Nominomicron, if he could find the real thing) .... he'd need the work.

Con Air was one of my favorite Nic Cages movie but all of the bad guys died and at the end Cage is a free man so how the f*ck is this gonna work?

So would his character be coming back from jailnagain or would they go the Passenger 57 route and have him going against terrorist?

Nic Cage would take this role. Only uncertain answer to question you would ask him is,"do you know how to pay your taxes?"

if there gonna go through with this... they might as well make a sequel to Face/Off as well... bring back CASTOR TROY!!

Con Air is a f*cking masterpiece.it should have won 10 oscars or something.a sequel?not so sure about this as most actors aged not so nicely(nic cage)but perhaps some fresh meat will do the job.and of course, bruckheimer has to be involved.

"Con-Air" was an enjoyable romp, wouldn't mind a second, just not sure how they would do it.

And Simon..I don't think you'll have a ptovlem getting Nic Cage back..he will some how work it in to his schedule.

Great, great film. Probably Nick's greatest period in life: The Rock, Face/Off and Con Air. In a row. But how a sequel would be made is very unclear. Let it be.

Well, they managed to make three sequels to Die Hard so I guess if they really wanted to they could do a Con Air sequel. As long as it's not a repeat of the first, it could work.

how the f*ck does kicking a pipe create a massage spike to shoot out and impale him...

but most importantly:

why couldn't he just put the bunny back in the box?
Dre-EL writes:

I just cant see a sequel to this, really I cant.

Nick has been in so many sh*tty movies of late its not surprising he'd want to go back to something he had some success.

Problem is he's gonna f*ck up the few good ones he has out there.

Season of the witch sucks balls

I have no faith in ghost rider2, WTF do conair2 who gives a sh*t.
batdump writes:

please no sequel. conair was fantastic. and ended the story correctly.

jikae writes:

As much as I loved Con-Air, there shouldn't be a sequel or even if they're thinking about it, a remake. Let the 90's action movies stand alone. If anything, do something like Stallone did and do a homage to it.
minkowski writes:
on January 25th, 2011 at 5:24:43 PM

The title is very specific. Con. Air. Convicts on a plane. Contrarily, the title Die Hard is abstract, thus sequels work under that title umbrella, but are we to believe that Cage gets BACK on a convict air transport and something goes wrong? Again?

I don't think they'll make a sequel. They shouldn't make a sequel. There's no justification and no room to do so.

But poor, poor Nick Cage. He's just lost himself. He's in ANOTHER sh*tty film, something to do with cars, his onscreen daughter and some wickedly bad hair. It's titled Drive Angry 3D. Real winner there.

darkraven28 writes:

And seriously, there's only three people on the actors side to get involved. Cage, Cusack, and Buscemi. DONE! Everyone else died in that movie didn't they? Or got captured? So, is West talking about writer Scott Rosenberg and Bruckheimer? While it's pretty clear he's not a big time user like his druggie former partner, Jerry Bruckheimer always seems on such happy pills that he'd agree to anything. And West is already set for director it sounds like. And Rosenberg needs the work. So just do it, and focus on Buscemi as the villain and a cross country chase to apprehend him. Done!
