"The Dark Tower" Casting Announcement in a WeekSubmit Comment
Director Ron Howard (Da Vinci Code) has already confirmed that the role of Roland Deschain in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" is between Viggo Mortensen and Javier Bardem.

MTV now caught up with producer Brian Grazer and asked him when a casting announcement will be made. "Within a week," he said. Outside of the Roland character, we will also likely find out who will play Susannah Dean, the female lead. King has always envisioned Angela Bassett in the role, but word is that Naomie Harris (Ninja Assassin, 28 Days Later) is the current front-runner.

Howard and writer Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Robot) are planning for the first film in the trilogy to be immediately followed by a TV series that will bridge the second film. After the second film, the TV series will pick up allowing viewers to explore the adventures of the protagonist as a young man as a bridge to the third film and beyond.

She Would have been great 10 years ago but shes too old now. I like Tara from True Blood to play Susannah but I doubt she would be able to fit it in.

As For Viggo and Javier they would both be great. Roland was based on Clint Eastwoods Man with no name and Aragon so It would make sense if they cast the man who played Aragon in the Movies.

Viggo for Roland, Javier for The Man in Black I say.

I'd like to see Zoe Saldana play Susannah, somebody like Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Eddie Dean, and perhaps Christopher Walken as Father Callahan...

Viggo definitely. And I have to give Ron Howard credit. He is being very ambitious with this. I look forward to seeing how he handles this story and how all these different forms of media connect into one complex story.

Ron Howard hasn't made a properly thrilling film. Ever. I dare anyone to name one film he has done that did justice to the genre of a decent book like the first Dark Tower.

But hey, who am I to slave over the pot of obvious in a kitchen of the blind?

Oh, and I vote for Javier Bardem. I think I'd spend far too much time staring at Mortensen's chin dimple if the role went to him.

This sounds, though interesting, an incredibly complex way to progress the story. Looks like Howard will be busy with Dark Tower for the rest of his life
