Paul Greengrass to Direct Martin Luther King Jr. ThrillerSubmit Comment
This coming Monday marks the 83rd anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther King Jr. And now, NY Magazine has learned that director Paul Greengrass (Bourne Ultimatum) is making plans to make his next film about the events leading up to King's assassination in Memphis, Tennessee.

Greengrass already wrote the script, called "Memphis," based on his own research. It tells the story of King's life while trying to organize the city's sanitation workers in spring of 1968, just before his murder on April 4th of that year.

King personal life was falling apart around that time, plus his assassination is very intriguing, considering all the conspiracy theories around it. Some claim that the Boy Scouts of America played a role in the murder.

Sounds good. If he can make it Bourne-like with an assassin trained to kill him that would be nice. I think it was, just as with JFK, an assassination.

I mean an assassination conspired by factions inside or working for the government.

Makes sense ... first they have problems with the Jigaboos, now they have problems with the Poofters.

... Wonder if they had a merit badge for Assassination with a Sniper Rifle ?

... You know, they did have a section in the Handbook on how to create a foolproof getaway, once you shot a man.

**** Spoiler Alert! ****

Martin Luther King Junior was assassinated in his hotel room.

* Oh, and I wonder if they'll bring up the FACT that J. Edgar Hoover had the room bugged.

@trailertrash

It was on the way to the Jamboree, so the Scoutmaster for the Mason, Georgia sect said,

" What the hell. Hey, Bubba. Do Troop 676 a fava' an' take out that ol' porch monke' with your bolt action rifle wit' th' scope, hunh ? Show us how well ya' did in gun practice at th' last camp outin' "

Great. Paul Green grass is muddying the waters sourrounding the simple strike on King by making a 'thriller' that stirs up latent conspiracy theories that fly without either moral merit or credulity.

I think we had enough of this crap with Stone rolling off one conspiracy joint after another with his JFK travesty, in shoch he heavily implied someone other than Oswald pulled the trigger, even though all scientific forensics, from every avenue, have availed themselves to butressing what sensible people thought all along: one man killed JFK.

And one man killed King. It took next to nothing to shoot the man as he foolishly stood out in the open in an area heavily replete with open balconies. The fatc that it took THAT long bespeaks to the entirel lack of any conspiracy necessary, as even I could have shot the man at any point prior to his death, had I loved then and I had an preoccupation with killing black people wanting equal rights, something you would think would have been a no-brainer.

One thing I would like to mention, though: why the hell does King get TWO holidays, whereas more important people e.g., Jefferson or Lincoln or Reagan or even Socialist-lite FDR, get not even one, but instead they have their holiday roled into one crummy day no one recognizes?
minkowski writes:
