Atari's "Missile Command" Game is Moving Forward

Posted: January 12th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
AtariSubmit Comment
About a year ago, we reported that 20th Century Fox and Atari joined forces to bring the 1980s arcade game "Missile Command" to the big screen. Now comes word that the studio has hired Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Flash Gordon, Dracula Year Zero) to write the script.

In the game, players are asked to defend six cities from an onslaught of ballistic missiles (represented by the sort-of squiggly lines) with the help of anti-missile weapons (represented by flashing cursors) fired from alongside said cities.

"Missile Command" is the third property that Atari is turning into a film, after "Asteroids" and "Rollercoaster Tycoon." It has sold more than 20 million units over its thirty year lifetime.

"Atari's "Missile Command" Game is Moving Forward"

And in other video game news from 1980 the highly anticipated home version of the smash hit arcade game "Space Invaders" has been spectacularly received on the million selling Atari VCS home video game system, selling out in toy shops and computer shops across the world and there are reports that sales of the Atari VCS itself have quadrupled since the game released!

Not sure how you film something without a plot... Maybe hire the guy who made Lost In Translation?

^it was a girl and yeah that movie was lame except Scarlett Johanssen nice chubby body.

Battle of Los Angeles is way more like a Space Invaders game, just not in space.

But I've always said that LA is a waste of Space, echoing David Morse's comment to young Ellie in Contact, but I digress.

Missile Command, as a movie, would involve lots of warheads lazily (physically impossible btw) strolling down on a block city, not weird little metal aliens (and some rather big ones) attacking a beach front megalopolis, as seen in BoLA.

Think the Terminator 3 nuclear holocaust scenes, without all the uncool crap before and after.
