DGA Announces Nominees for Best Director Award

DGA Announces Nominees for Best Director AwardSubmit Comment
The Directors Guild of America has revealed the nominees for its 2011 award. The list is not surprising and will likely be mirrored when the Academy Awards announces its nominees in the Best Director category.

The DGA will announce the winner on January 29th and it will be a good indication who will win the Oscar. Ever since the guild started giving out awards in 1948, only six times did their winner not gone on to win at the Academy Awards.

You can check out the list below, and while all choices are great, I would have loved to see Danny Boyle for "127 Hours" and the Coen brothers for "True Grit" on there.

An the nominees are (in alphabetical order):

* Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)

* David Fincher (The Social Network)

* Tom Hooper (The King's Speech)

* Christopher Nolan (Inception)

* David O. Russell (The Fighter)

It should either Christopher Nolan or Darren Aronofsky.

Haven't seen The Fighter nor The King's Speech, but I doubt they're better then these two.

SWAN!!! Fincher will probably run away with this award, not that he's not deserving or anything. I'm personally rooting for Aranofsky.

When will the world hop off Nolan's nuts?

The Social Network was the best film of the year. But if you're looking to people who broke new ground with directing in their films you'd have to go with Aronofsky or Nolan. But I wouldn't be upset if Fincher won. He is a modern master.

the social network was good but over rated, same with the fighter, i would take 127 hours over those two films any day.

Aronofsky all the way.

It's obvious they will pick Fincher for his crappiest movie of all time.

WTF David O. Russell over Coens
The Fighter is nothing special
Aronofsky or Fincher

In terms of directional skill surely Nolan should take the win, the acting in inception and probably all of nolan films always takes second place to the narrative. The characters are often quite 2 dimensional and boring but always perfect for the story. Nolans not exactly a feel good director but a ground breaking auteur. He's not at hitchc*cks level yet and may never be, but he's the closest thing we got.

No Danny Boyle for 127 hours? :(

^ Good point actually, it takes a skilled director to make such an emotional film about a man stuck in a rock

127 hours was Boyle at his best. He's gonna be back on top once again. this film had the suspence and tension of shallow grave and the emotional connection with the characters that trainspotting had. maybe emotional connection for trainspotting is a strong term to use, after all im not a junkie
