"Red Dawn" Remake to Hit Theaters in 2011, Plus New PhotoSubmit Comment
MGM recently completed its restructuring with a $500 million line of credit that will go toward developing the 23rd "James Bond" installment and back-to-back "The Hobbit" prequels.

The studio won't emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection officially for several more months, but once it does, it will work on getting its "Red Dawn" remake into theaters. The film is one of three completed projects and will be released in 2011.

"Red Dawn" focuses on a group of teenagers looking to save their town from an invasion of Chinese and Russian soldiers. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

In addition, we have a photo of the "Red Dawn" cast. Check it out below.

MAX

Good points about why not many Westerns in Hollywood are filmed anymore

YAY! A group of teenage bugs killing trained Chinese and Russian soldiers! I love it! They should put this in 3D and then it will REALLY sell!

Great. Would've been better if they had made the film around foreign exchange students IN China, so the whole "China/Russia invades Starbucks" plot device could be avoided, but hey, the cast looks about as stellar as 1980s 21 JumpStreet, minus Depp, so I'm sure, along with the Wall of China movie title font, this film has a prosperous future ahead of itself.

As a Red Box rental.

"It stars..."

Magic 8-Ball says "Outlook not so good".

They aren't made because no one wants to watch them.

Next question, please.

Maybe instead of a dude peein' in the radiator they'll make a chick squat up for it.

Just for the record I'll gladly pee in anyones radiator if they need it.

Just get the chick from Transporter 3. She likes to squat for the camera.

f*ck this pap.

If I want to wipe my ass with a script, I'd rather get the one for Little Fockers.

I heard the ply is softer.

Red Dawn, or what you get when the wife has her period right before the rooster crows.

Why aren't many Westerns made anymore?

"Because no one wants to watch them anymore."

Well that is an answer, although probably the most simplistic answer someone could come up with besides "Cowboy hats went out of style."

Westerns were a mainstay of American movies for many decades, to just say that everybody just suddenly lost complete interest in that particular genre with no reason seems a bit unlikely.

But obviously something happend. Something that was important enough in the overall American mindscape that we lost interest in our overly romanticized and somewhat idyllic perception of that particular genre.

Well let's ask John Wayne, he seemed to know a lot about movie Westerns.

Wayne publicly criticized director Sam Peckinpah for his film The Wild Bunch (1969), which he claimed "destroyed the myth of the Old West".

1969 was the year the Wild Bunch came out.

And even before that Westerns were slowly evolving towards the more realistic, and further away from the romanticized and idyllic version, which was a version that was much easier for the general public to understand and digest.

And if Westerns were already headed in that direction, Televised coverage of the Vietnam War certainly influenced directors during that period to film more realistic depictions of violence.

So overall the movie Western evolved to something very different from its initial origins. Into a cinematic horse of a different color.

But the past eventually becomes the present, and some things do eventually evolve. And realistically you can't go back to that old romanticized Western of yesteryear. It is frankly a different world. And I just don't think it would work, and certainly not for multiple movies in the same year.

Red Dead Redemption will bring the westerns back.. that videogame proves that there's still much money to make with that genre.

True grit seems to be doing ok for a genre no one wants to watch anymore

@Big Daddy

To be fair, it's biggest competition this season was Little Fockers and Gullivers Travels.

Those two were like sticking the Star Wars Kid in a MMA match the day he just got out of remedial reading. (with one of those rubber toys that makes a hum when you wave it about)

The original is one of the few 80's action films i didn't like and i don't think i've ever made it to the end of the movie.

Snooze City......

I think some of you underestimate the following Red Dawn enjoys. Some of you weren't even born when it came out. I believe this film will gross over $100 million. The original gets played on TV a LOT and there is a lot of internet buzz about it with websites dedicated to it. What's hurting it is the delays.
All this depends on if Hollywood doesn't dumb it down for what it THINKS the audience wants. Never underestimate a 'Pearl Harbor' love story BS injected into the script or use the movie to lecture Americans.
It's about damn time Hollywood put out a pro-American action war movie without preaching. If they release it, we will come. I do agree in that the cast looks more like a PS3 SOCOM get-together in Mom & Dad's basement, but let's see how they do. Anything is better than the Abercrombie Werewolves in 'Twilight'.
