"Shutter Island" is Redbox's Most-Rented Film of 2010

Posted: January 2nd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Shutter Island" is RedboxSubmit Comment
Redbox has unveiled that Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" is the company's most-rented film of 2010. It was rented 5.5 million times, beating the company's previous record-holder "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," which was rented 4.5 times.

It's not surprising that a Leonardo DiCaprio movie would be on top since he is the highest-grossing actor of last year. But many thought that it would be "Inception" that would be the most rented. In reality, Christopher Nolan's "Inception" didn't even make the top five.

Check out the top five rented Redbox movies below and notice that none of them are the best-reviewed or highest-grossing. There is no "Avatar," no "Alice in Wonderland," and no "Toy Story 3." There is clearly a specific group of people who use these kiosks.

Top Five Redbox Films:

1. Shutter Island

2. Bounty Hunter

3. Grown Ups

4. The Karate Kid

5. The Blind Side

Besides Shutter Island, all the other movies are chickflics. Apparently women still prefer renting a movie instead of just downloading it.

Inception isn't available in Redbox yet because of the 28 day hold the studio has with Redbox and Netflix. And given it's December DVD release date it wouldn't have been available in 2010 for Redbox so that makes a lot of sense why it wasn't up there.

"There is clearly a specific group of people who use these kiosks."

Yes. there is: morons with neither the cash to buy the good movies they'd like to own, nor the brains and balls to shoplift them.

Notice how all the flicks are garbage, and the best of the crap pile is Stutter Island, a film I wouldn't have watched even once had I possessed the power of fortune-telling.

The same sort of people that rent from Red Box are the same sort of people that rent Stephen King Audiobooks of his really bad novels from the library, fail to listen to the entire audiobook, fail to return them on time, and, to compound evil with evil, bring the discs back all scratched up because they let their toddlers use the discs as baby food coasters.

Shutter Island would have been better if it didn't include the final twist. (In fact I think I'll imagine that the final twist is actually a lie and all part of the previous twist rather than the other way around, lol!)

I didnt see shutter island because my friend said he loved it (my friend has terrible taste in movies). but yeah as previously said, the top movies were just bought and borrowed out or downloaded. these movies are rented because nobody wanted to pay to own them.
