Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" to Become a Movie, Again

Sony Pictures is looking to pick up a pitch for a brand new "Frankenstein" movie, which will be a contemporary version of the Mary Shelley novel. Craig Fernandez, who pitched the project, will write the script.

While Universal is known for its classic monster franchises, Sony went through its own infatuation with horror classics in the early 1990s. That included the 1994 "Frankenstein," which starred Robert De Niro as the monster with director Kenneth Branagh as Victor Frankenstein. The studio also made the 1992 Francis Coppola-directed Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and the 1994 Mike Nichols-directed "Wolf."

Fernandez is not a well-known writers, since he's just starting his Hollywood career. But he's currently working on "Prada to Nada" for Lionsgate, and "Everything Must Go" and "Clay's Ark" for DreamWorks Animation.

The way De Niro is taking movie roles at the minute, he may well sign on again for this..

Question 1 : Is this going to be animated ? If so, I would recommend to go the Bernie
Wrightson route and go for extreme detail.

The last thing we need is a Monsters Inc : Frankie's Boltin'.

Question 2 : Deniro again as Frank ? Nah, but if he took it seriously and did a very subdued, altered version of the doctor he acted as in Godsend, then I could see him play Victor Frankenstein. But for the monster ? Why not Doug Jones (the actor who played Abe Sapien or the Pan figure in Pan's Labyrinthe) ... which would be more artistic.

Question 3 : Why does every big movie half to be made by big budget directors or big budget screenwriters ? Case in point : The Wolfman (2010).
