Johnny Depp Wants Brad Pitt for "The Lone Ranger"

Johnny Depp Wants Brad Pitt for "The Lone Ranger"Submit Comment
It was recently confirmed that "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski will direct the upcoming "Lone Ranger" movie that has Johnny Depp starring as Tonto. But who will play the title character?

Nothing is finalized, but Depp has his preferences. "There's so many interesting possibilities out there," he told Entertainment Tonight. "Brad [Pitt] would be great. [George] Clooney would be great. Don't know who it's going to be just yet."

Both of those choices are not surprising since Clooney was rumored to star in the film for quite a while and Depp likely got to hang out with Pitt on the set of "The Tourist."

Depp went on to say that his maternal grandfather is Cherokee and that he took the role of Tonto in order to change how Native American Indians are portrayed in Hollywood. "Native Americans in cinema, over the past many decades, have been treated somewhat shabbily," he explained. "This one has plans to rectify that."

Pitt and Depp on screen together would be pretty cool.

And giving the part of Tonto to someone who is barely Native American (and as far as I know isn't regarded as such by anyone, if they even knew it, except maybe his own family) rectifies that does it? Lol!

I'm not very familiar with the tv-show, but I'm not sure that Tonto is the best representation of the Native Americans.

I'm sure making Tonto a white guy would definitely change how Native Americans are treated on film. They'd get more respect, higher pay, and probably better material to work with. Who knows, directors might actually allow them to star in roles that don't require them to ride bareback on a horse and speak broken English. LOL, this is wrong in so many ways :)

Look away Paki Hobbit, look away. Its not a fair world, especially if you're not white :)

They should cast Denzel Washington as the Lone Ranger!

Hey Alex why not try this topic, "Is Hollywood racist for casting Johnny Depp as Tonto?"

If Depp was is cast as Tonto its all about the Boxoffice pull of Johnny Depp nothing more.

Maybe he should remake Little Big Man or A Man Called Horse least they were white guys who ended up being Indians ...

What about Jon Lovitz as Tonto (again) ...

Wow. Now they are turning this sh*t into Wild Wild West II : Revenge of the Turd Brigade.

Both of those choices are not surprising since Clooney was rumored to star in the film for quite a while and Depp likely got to hang out with Pitt on the set of "The Tourist."

f*ck. This is just going to be sh*t. I can smell Silver's big ol' horsepiles coming from a mile away.

Could f*cking care less.

So this means Depp won't be asking the Lone Ranger for 'firewater', scalping 'heap lot of white man', raping and pillaging and my favorite, whooping it up and beating on the tom-tom. Awwwwww, then you take all the fun out of playing "Heap Big Injun' Tonto'.

When they had Iron Eyes Cody weeping about tossing trash on the side of the road, I actually laughed pretty loudly. He should've been chasing down the motherf*cker who threw out his paper cup and scalped him. That would've made that f*cking litterbug never forget!

But crying ? Fuuuuuuuuuck.

Shouldn't they cast me as the Lonely Ranger?
Ranger writes:

I think Depp and Pitt would be fabulous playing these two.

If unavailable, go with Denzel and a Pakistani lady as Tonto.

PS: I know Depp was generalizing re: Tonto's and their treatment in cinema, and he's right. But if memory serves, the Indians got nothing but respect from Eastwood's Josy Wales, as those tanned folk kicked ass and took names 'til Josey made peace with them. I seem to remember Clint's character having a major problem with every whitey in that movie except for the kid he rode with. And Chief Dan George was allowed to steal every scene from Clint. Just an thought... in case anyone here happened to miss that, one of the greatest westerns in history (along with Rio Bravo).

Depp is native enough for it to work. If you haven't noticed, there's a shortage of full-blooded native americans in hollywood (and on the planet in general), and nobody in their right mind is going to turn away Johnny Depp looking for a role.
Since Tonto's name means "idiot", maybe they can write it where he's a halfbreed indian who can't get no respect.

And I don't know where to go from there...
