Would Ray Winstone Make a Good James Bond?

Would Ray Winstone Make a Good James Bond?Submit Comment
Ray Winstone (The Departed, Edge of Darkness) revealed that he would love the chance to play James Bond at some point, but is worried that he wouldn't be able to compete with Daniel Craig's physique.

"I'd make a great Bond, wouldn't I," he said. "You know, he's a Londoner, he's a killer and a lover. I'm a killer, lover. Mind you Daniel is alright in the Speedos. He's got the eight-pack hasn't he? I've got the barrel."

Winstone has been known to play tough guys in films, so it's not impossible to imagine the actor playing the secret agent. The actor does, however, use a gun more than martial arts skills.

Trouble is he would make a good Bond, but when he was younger he did'nt look the part to rough..lol..now he does look the part but of course this Bond is totally different..maybe a villian in the Bond world.

He Certainly wouldn't take any sh*t and would make Connery seem more like Roger Moore thats for sure ...
masht7 writes:

He would be like the Roger Moore to Craig like what Moore was to Connery (if you knoew what I mean). But I just don't see it.

@tt

He certainly would take Bond to places he has never been...haha
trailertrash writes:

Mash-
You think Craig would be a tougher Bond than Winstone ? But I agree though i just don't see it..

As dave said he would be a Good Bond Villian..

I don't know how Ray would be as James Bond, but he would make one hell of a M (if Dame Judy Dench ever passed, God rest her soul).
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:

He seems more like Porter, in Payback, than Bond. Which (based on Porter's intestinal fortitude) would be more of a badass.

no
trailertrash writes:

Max-

Porter has to be Mel Gibsons best Character after Martin Riggs, Hell he would even give Lee Marvin a run for his money !!
darkraven28 writes:

He's awesome but could never be Bond. I think his only real options as far as this goes would be to campaign to be a villain in one of Craig's Bond films, which I could see happening quite easily. The man is huge and very intimidating. Or he could do a Bond spoof/secret agent film and easily get away with it. Perhaps directed by Edgar Wright. THAT would rock.
dwight writes:

Any good looking actor can play Batman. But not any actor can play Superman. you have to have the Superman look. Same thing with Bond. you have to have the bond look like Brosnan and Connery. Craig doesn't have it nethier does Ray.
trailertrash writes:
on November 25th, 2010 at 6:49:16 PM

Dwight-

Have to disagree there, I think Craig has done a stand up job as Bond.

Must admit i wasn't too keen on him as Bond before Casino Royale, Liked him in Layer Cake just didn't see him as James Bond.

But once that came out, i now can't see anyone else out there now doing as good a job as Bond.

He doesn't have the classic good looks of Connery, Moore or Brosnan but he's made the character cool again with the Connery hard edge.

I hope MGM sort their sh*t out and he comes back for a 3rd movie.
Eben1277 writes:
on November 25th, 2010 at 7:37:55 PM

You said it Trailer, I was skeptical of Craig at first (OK outright PISSED, I wanted Clive Owen) but after seeing Casino Royale thought they made a good choice. Clive Owen would still be better.
English_Bloke82 writes:

what a stupid f*cking question! Can Sean Connery still do his own stunts will be the next. f*ck sake man!
English_Bloke82 writes:

@Trailer I agree mate. Craig was a very good bond. Had my doubts when it came out about the life jacket in Casino Royale, but he is damn good. Winston = Villian = Good. Winston = Bond = bad

Could you imagine if he was "M" as max pointed out..saying to Bond that imortal line from "Sc*m"..."I'm the f*cking daddy round here"..would be worht the admission price alone.

Mel isn't hard enough to hold Lee Marvin's used condom.

Lee would've made Mel HIS bitch and had him do more than just BLOW him.

@Dave the Photo Guy

He would take Craig and beat the living sh*t out of him for not doing the job right. And he wouldn't need a gun to do it with.

No sh*t there mate, as bad as Bond would want to be he would never be as bad as Ray Winstone's characture in "Sc*m".

The Sc*m great movie, But very uncomfortable viewing for guys who fear male rape ...

Hmmm... could see him as a Bond villain, but not in the Craig Bond movies. Craig's Bond villains are whiny businessmen.

Statham as Bond against Ray Winstone. Oh yes.

you know there was rumours of a "Sweeney" movie with Winstone as Regan and Dyer as Carter, Nick Love was going to write and direct, trouble is they couldn't really raise the money,f*cking American studios did'nt think Dyer was a well enough name in the States.
technoreaper writes:

Did the writer of this article have too much to drink? Seriously? This might be a good idea if it was a movie about Bond's last days in the service, lol.
trailertrash writes:

Dave- I did hear that and those 3 would be a perfect fit all round.

Don't think there is anyone else who could play Regan other than Ray and Danny your right is not such a big name outside of Upton Park (lol) would be a good Carter.

he would make an excellent bond, only not a 'HollyWood Bond' hollywood portrays certai stereotypes bla bla he does not fit there mold.play him as a bond who was shut down for questionable methods..brought back for dirty ops where a loose cannon needed. . rather than focusing on six packs and chizzled features, he could be extremely gifted interlectualy. . dancing on the line between genius and madness...he is a superb actor and totally believable....
