Matthew Goode the Frontrunner for "Superman" Reboot?

Matthew Goode the Frontrunner for "Superman" Reboot?Submit Comment
It was recently reported that Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) and Christopher Nolan have started searching for the actor to play the lead role in the "Superman" reboot.

MovieNewz has now learned that Matthew Goode, who played superhero Ozymandias in Snyder's "Watchmen" film, is at the top of the list. He may not have big muscles, but that's not what Snyder and Nolan are looking for. They want someone who can be a convincing Clark Kent and will then use CG to make the actor look like Superman.

Whoever is cast will be between 28 and 32 years old and Goode falls into that range. He is also 6'2 tall, which is just an inch shorter than Brandon Routh. However, these types of casting rumors are nothing new. Expect for everyone who has ever worked with Snyder to be mentioned. Stay tuned.

Why don't they just use Tom Welling?

No big objections here. He looks the role. Can't vouch for his acting though.

Your right Young Chris, he did a good job and deserves another shot at being Superman.

Doesn't look like that will happen though.

My vote is for Brandon Routh again. With Nolan at the (almost) helm, and a story this time, it could work well.

But at trailer has already said... not likely that'll happen. The studio never wanted Christopher Reeve to play Superman. The studio heads can F*CKING BLOW ME!!!

Like I said in the previous "Superman's cast" post, Henry Cavill has been internet's favorite for years:

He was one of the rivals for Routh in SR's casting, but Routh won because Cavill was too young looking back then, but now he is (obviously) older and more experienced (he is in "The Tudors" tv show) and with some time in the gym (although he is now much bigger than what it seems in these pics, look for him in google or in some Superman's boards where a lot of people want him for the role and are continuously posting current pics of him, even photoshopped pics dressed as Superman XD) he looks a lot more like Supes than this guy from "Watchmen".
Big_Daddy writes:

Brandon Routh made superman returns somewhat watchable he kept the spirit of reeves in that character flawlessly.
rabid writes:

Brandon Routh was the worst thing about Superman Returns. The guy has no acting style and his only redeeming feature is that he slightly resembles Reeve. It's high time to leave those Donner films in the past and film a Superman that matches how far the character has evolved in the past 20 years.
Ranger writes:
on November 22nd, 2010 at 1:18:04 PM

I don't think that script let Supes really fly Rabid. It looks like they're searching for a new guy anyway. DC has really let Hollywood screw this up.
rabid writes:

At least they're in a position to fix it now with Nolan and Snyder. But part of me thinks they're going to reboot the concept to the point of being nearly unrecognizable.

I was excited about this project, but not so much anymore. Atleast Nicolous Cage won't be cast as Sups.
rabid writes:

I know that Welling is a horrible actor, but it's a sacrifice I'd accept for the sake of continuity from the series. If it's a new concept not attached to the series, then they need a totally new actor.
Champ1432 writes:

Not so sure about this guy, doesn't really look the part as far as I'm concerned, I think they could do a lot better.

I agree with all the Routh supporters, the guy did a good job as Kent and Superman, and he looks the part big time. Yes, his performnce was similar to Reeve's. I'm cool with that, no reason to fix what isn't broken. It's a shame he won't get another chance because they wasted him on Superman Returns.

Brandon Routh or Tom Welling. They shouldn't bring someone else into the Superman roll. It'll be way to confusing!

Brandon Routh will never do another Superman film because WB has no intention of returning to the Donner/Reeves films of the past.

They're looking to do something different, and they're also looking to produce a film that's worthy of standing next to the Nolan Batman films.

Brandon Routh looked like Christopher Reeves, and that's it. He was hired for his image, not his acting ability, of which he has little.

And to hell with that garbage Smallville. They call it Smallville for a reason: it's small.

Superman in films is supposed to look SUPER, and that includes doing more than looking like a gay male model while fighting villans from the 90210 dimension.

Besides, Welling doesn't look enough like the way Superman should look.

And why should WB retain Welling for the film just because he starred in a relatively unpopular show?

It's time to start over with a film that can hold it's own next to Nolan's vision while also depicting Superman as truly super. It's time to forget the 'Donner Vision' and move past the Reeves legacy.

Anyway, I'm not feeling Goode as Superman. He doesn't have the look, and he's way, way too skinny. Even his skeletal structure isn't up to par, so if he puts on a lot of muscle, he will still look less than super, IMO.
minkowski writes:

"They want someone who can be a convincing Clark Kent and will then use CG to make the actor look like Superman."

FAIL!
minkowski writes:
on November 22nd, 2010 at 8:04:42 PM

So what they want to do is have a skinny Kent, but a Schwarzeneggar Superman? Somehow, I don't see that working. What, does Kent magically grow muscles?

That would add a whole new level of sh*ttiness to the film, as Superman doesn't change shape. Ever.

But I can see lot's of steroid product placmement and ads using the film to sell the notion that even weakling wimps can get big quick.
Kain writes:

GCI muscles... you've got to be kidding me.
rabid writes:
on November 23rd, 2010 at 10:34:43 AM

the whole article above smells like bullsh*t. Nobody's going to CGI a suit on Superman.
But legally, if they're not basing it on Smallville, they are going to have to do a total reinvention of the character. So we might see a new take on the suit, something more alien. I doubt it will be CGI, but I wouldn't mind if the fabric looked more alien or was technologically enhanced.
And maybe this time, they'll explain why he chooses to wear red underwear over his pants.
