Denzel Washington Wants to Star in Comic Book Movie

Denzel Washington Wants to Star in Comic Book MovieSubmit Comment
AbsoluteNow caught up with Denzel Washington during the press junket for "Unstoppable" and asked whether he would be interested in starring in a comic book movie.

"I think that comic book movies now are what comics were 30 years ago," the actor replied. "I think now with the technology it's like comic books on steroids and I'm very excited about that. I'd love to be a part of something."

Washington is almost 57-years-old now, so there's not that many superheroes that he can play. There are, however, plenty of supporting roles out there. And filmmakers like Marc Webb, Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder would likely love to have the Oscar-winning actor join their cast.

Why not? Denzel can do whatever the f*ck he wants and it will be entertaining. The man is the BEST Hollywood has to offer.

I'd personally like to see Denzel in Tarantino's black western. I guarantee between Quentin's conversational genius and Denzel unmatched screen presence they would make THE perfect movie together. If QT ever wants his Oscar, Denzel might be the one to deliver it for him.

Wow just thinking of those two working togerther gives me goosebumps :)

Denzel is the man. I could see him playing a great Blade or maybe even Black Panther's father T'Chaka. The Legend of the Blue Marvel would make a killer movie, but it's a character most have never heard of.

Wow couldnt agree with you more, Quentin and Denzel would be amazing together, then agian what actor isnt with Quentin? lol he truely has a way of bringing out the best in his actors.

wow... good point... put QT & Denzel together... that'd be a sick idea!

Denzel could play Buck Wild, Mercenary Man, Icon (from the former DC Milestone Comics Imprint) or Black Lightning ... if he's serious enough.

I mean, if those rumors about recruiting John Hamm to play an older, statesman Superman were true ... then why not ?

It sure as hell would do better than Mario Van Peeble's POSSE ... I mean, Stephen Baldwin stunk up the f*cking place.

^^No sh*t. At his age, Book of Eli is the best he's going to get, unless he does a "Blade Battling Vampires in the Retirement Home" film.

And only black people think Denzel is the best Hollywood has to offer. I mean, that's just completely silly.

Sure, he has a nice and likable presence, and I love the guy for his roles, but the best? Hardly. He doesn't even have that great of range.

In fact, he has like two modes, whereas Lawrence Fishburne, in comparison and for example, has several and does them all very well. Compare his Matrix role to his CSI to his Predators role. Brilliance.

Unfortunately, Fishburn isn't as handsome, so that works against him.

@minkowski

Maybe not. He's like Forest Whittaker. They've got heavy acting chops. Plus, Larry gets extra props, since he was underage when he got his start in Apocolypse Now, as the gunner.

But with The Matrix (and those godawful, Superman wannabe sequels), he has done his comics/anime
movie (since the Wachowski Bros. (can you call then Bros. now, since one has gone the trans way ? ) used comic book artists to design the spider-trackers, the Nebakanezer and even the screen shots (ex : the angled shot of Trinity shooting the 'agent' at point blank range on the roof), such as Geof Darrow), so if he did another, it would be his second comic-book themed movie.

I think Michael Caine should be the star of the remake of The Equalizer.

He's the only Brit guy (other than Edward Woodward) who could've brought balls to the part.

@Rambo

I agree. I almost wished he and Chris Pine started out more Silver Streak, than Unstoppable.

They could recreate that 'act jive' scene, where Chris wears a beannie cap and blackface, while Denzel does his best Pryor impression, teaching him how to 'walk and talk jive, turkey'.

I would say that's a terrific idea had Caine already not done his Equalizer act with the film Harry Brown. But yes, a wonderful idea otherwise.
