When "Paranormal Activity 2" hit theaters and grossed over $40 million during its opening weekend, Paramount Pictures revealed that it is considering a third installment.

The studio has now announced that "Paranormal Activity 3" is officially in development and is scheduled to hit theaters on October 21st, 2011, which is exactly one year after the second film.

"Paranormal Activity 2" has now taken in a total of $157 million on a $3 million budget. The original film grossed $193 million on a $15,000 budget.

It's formulaic, but there's still a decent ongoing storyline. And after part 2, there are plenty of unanswered questions about the haunted family's past and future. I'd definitely watch a third film to find out.
At least it's got a better storyline than Saw.
